The 1.6EL is a really nice little car. Very reliable and quite sporty. Ride is firm, but not harsh, good cornering. Front discs, rear drums. Some had leather, heated mirrors/seats, good cd stereo, etc.. Very fun car to drive!

The 1.7El has been a bit of a disaster. It is plagued by terrible build quality. They have stereos that died, lots(!!!!!) of struts failing, squeaks/rattles from cheap interior parts, the 5 speed trannys blew the snap rings up internally, brakes clunk/bang/squeal, the list goes on. Quite a sh!tty car considering Acuras high standards.

Just my 2 cents.

the civic has some very similiar problems when it first came out. mainly 2001-early 2002 cars. still, not an excuse for honda.

again, they are civics with more options and a different front and rear treatment.

Nope they didt sell them here.
A very few people have them in the states, mostly people that moved from canada to the us. I brought mine here.

Different dash than a civic

same exact dash as the EK civic. just a different steering wheel and clock in center. obviously you've changed your dash around.

Well... I guess this is where I fit in... I own a 1999 Acura 1.6EL Premium (leather (heated) power mirrors/windows/locks, sunroof, 15" alloy rims, ect) It's a really nice car, much better then a civic. The 1.7EL's look like **** (to much of a civic look) while the 1.6's have a look all there own.

It's made in Aliston (sp?) Ontario and only sold in Canada. A few guys from the states get the front end of an EL and swap it onto there civic so it looks diff.

Check out my sound domain page for some pics. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/354950

I've seen a few of them down here. At first glance, I thought it was just another Civic. I think it's a nice car if you're looking for a more upscale alternative to a Civic.

The 2004 front bumper, and the 2004 rear tails are quite badass and would look better than alot of body kits floating around for the 2k4 Civic. However, I don't think I've seen anyone try and do EL stuff locally, much less think anyone would.

It looks almost like a Civic with TL features.

I give it 8/10.

The EL is a piece of ****. My dealer would give me one as a loaner car when my Legend coupe was in for servicing. Worst car I have driven...noisy as hell, rough ride, absolutely no power to speak of...same deal with Integras. At least the Integra was somewhat fun to drive, though.
