How to tell if a FF car has LSD or not?
Hi all,
I was wondering if you could tell if a car has been equipped with an LSD or not. If so, how? you gotta jack the car up right? spin 1 wheel or something?!?
Thanks

not true.
the stock ITR diff will spin the wheel in the opposite direction like an open
diff because its unlocked while unloaded.
The only real way to tell is to drive around a turn and apply power on exit.

sgt, can you riddle me this?
while using my stock jack to rotate my rear tires to the front, i noticed that before i took them off to switch i was able to rotate my wheel backwards, my front wheels specifically, and it was making a very odd clicking noise. does that have anything to do with the differential? i ask this because when i take turns from a stop sign sometimes i noticed a lot of slipping coming from the tires, isn't the lsd supposed to address the slipping?

sgT,
I tried that in the rain yesterday, and normally cars without LSD would go straight when you have your foot on the gas pedal. But it actually wanted to turn. I did it a few times and same thing. So I was wondering if there is any other way to test it to see if it does or not, rather than pulling out the whole complete gearbox.

Well, if you put your foot on the gas and the revs dont shoot up and rather the
car tries to turn, then you have good tires. 1 of 3 things will happen in your
situation:
1. both tires will spin sending you straight
2. inside tire will start to spin making rpms shoot up and you slow down
3. both tires grab and you turn
1 and 3 indicate LSD USUALLY, 2 is definitely open diff.

if you were to pull one axle and look through the diff, if you can see the other axle with no obstruction, you have a lsd. if there is a metal bar, kinda looks like a pin, obstructing your view of the other axle, it's an open diff.
