do I have an LSD???
ok I got a JDM 99 spec B18c R swap in my EK. Now I can't find the LSD stamp... what is teh easiest way to tell if I got the lsd tranny or not?
When I looked throught the Diff when teh motoro was out, I coudl see rigth through. If there was no lsd then there would be a bar there, right? is there any other way to tell?
Like if I raise the front 2 wheels, and turn one wheel, the other one shoudl spin the opposite way or something like that?

Re: do I have an LSD??? (daddymaxx)
if you look through the differential it shoudl be empty. if you have LSD you shoud be able to look right through it. if you see a bar then you dont have LSD. that easy

Re: (daddymaxx)
If you HAVE LSD then the opposite wheel will turn in the opposite direction. IE, if you're turning a wheel clockwise by hand, the wheel on the other side will turn counter-clockwise.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm like 99 percent sure on it...

thats bad information. open differentials do this, but my JDM lsd tranny did it to (yes i know its a lsd for sure)

So how is it bad information if your lsd tranny did it? Or is it correct for LSD but also for open differential, making it not a way to determine whether or not LSD is present...

its correct for both trannys. its not a way to determine.

i was told that if you had an LSD, turning one wheel physically would make the other wheel turn the same way?? (off the ground) whereas an open diff would make the other wheel go the opposite way?? have you tried this yet daddymaxx?

The only true way to find out is to look. There was a thread about this same thing a month or two ago, and it was determined that different types of differentials can do the same things and you can't tell just by spinning the tires, or burning out.
You said you looked and saw nothing in the diff. right? looked like this?...
Than you have a LSD, end of story.

Re: (daddymaxx)
it stops the power of the engine from being transfered to the path of least resistance (slipping wheel)...
SO when you have ice say on one side of the street but good traction on the other wheel... a LSD tranny will send power to the wheel with the traction... and a NON LSD tranny will send ALL the power to the wheel with NO traction...
Limited SLIP differential.

Well...not to be a jerk but... no you don't...
It doesn't make you "handle" any better... it gives you better traction...
If you have traction problems in the summer... IE you do burnouts on one wheel when you try to take off... then it will greatly increase acceleration of your car... If you don't have traction problems then it won't really make much of a difference at all.
And
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by "vtekthis" »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">LSD=both in one direction!
OPEN DIFF=in opposite directions!</TD></TR></TABLE>
YOU ARE WRONG... as stated both lsd and non-lsd can do either depending on design...
