88-91 tansmission question
i have a 90 crx si and i've been looking for a transmission with out not much luck. the thing is i know that the 88 tannys are different than the 90 or 91, but what about an 89 si tans? are 89-91 all the same and 88 diff? or 88-89 the same and 90-91 the same? i've tryed to search some w/o any real luck. please some one help!

it looks as if i use the clutch and flywheel out of a 90 it'll work otherwise i have to use an 89 set up....

not exactly, the 88 is diff from all of em and the 89 is diff from all of em the 90 and 91 are the only ones that are the same.
in your case, yes you can use an 89 tranny on your 91 using the 89-91 flywheel and the 89-91 clutch.

when i changed my original tranny, it was an L3 tranny, i got another L3 tranny off of a 89 Si... so i thought they were the same...<shrug>

yeah the splines are the same but once you get inside the tranny with the gears and syncro mesh then the stuff tends to not match up right but yoiu can use a 89 clutch with a 90 tranny so on and so for just not with the 88.

all 89-91 Si transmissions are identical, externally and internally - most of the 88's are internally the same as 89-91 (although i have had one with the smaller differential bearings like the DX), the only difference is the 21 splines on the input shaft instead of 20 on the 89-91
