Default Who can figure this out!

Ok, i have a 98 accord with 116k 4-cyl. When the engine is relatively cold and i start my engine I get a strange squeek/screatch for only half a second and the noise goes away. When the engine is warm/hot no noise at all. Alternator and power steering belts new and tension seems ok. The noise COULD be coming close to the starter area. Could it be the starter? Do starters make these strange squeeky noises? Or is it a belt or power sterring pump? Thanks.

I would say a buzzy-squeak, but goes away quickly after startup.

don't have abs. The noise comes instantaniously after startup and disapears quickly. Please give me some clues. Do starers make this squeek noise at startup or is it a belt?

have you ever replaced the starter? Had any problems with it before?

If so, it might be the starter-arm gnashing on the flywheel teeth for a split second.
It happens quite often with so-so rebuilt starters.

sounds belt related to me...the starter would grind and be more of a mechanical sound than a high pitched squeeling...i know b/c mine does that on startup occasionally...go over your belts again and make sure they are all tensioned properly one last time...also, how long's it been since the timing belt has been changed???

is it a buzzy squeek like a bee after a mouse or more like a wasp after a dry hinge? you sure it isnt a sip pop? or maybe even a click spat? sometimes mine makes a hummm screech but thats only because my cd skips while braking. If i were you i would narrow down the possiblilitys to a more definate decible or tone. good luck anyway.

Replace your belt. It may be slipping.

get some WD-40 or some lubricating spray, and spray your pullies, the center part. i usually have some squeak because its cold out and it goes away when the car has been warmed up. goodluck!!!

Your absolutely right. It was the alternator belt. I re-tensioned and everything is normal. Thanks.
