Default How do you read a vin #?

I am just curious what all of the numbers mean on a Vin #?

How do you read it?

I some what know that the model and engine are included but what is the breakdown?

if you look in a helms itll tell you. somehthing like, place of birth, year, blah blah.

1HG: Manufacturer, Make and Type of Vehicle = Honda of America MFG., Inc. Honda Passenger Vehicle
EJ6: Line, Body and Engine Type = Civic 2-Door/D16Y7
1: Body Type and Transmission Type = Coupe/5-Speed Manual
2: Vehicle Grade = DX, Si
*: Check Digit
V: Model Year = 1997
L: Factory Code = East Liberty, Ohio Plant, U.S.A.
800001: Serial Number

Thanks for the great info!

Also I remember there being a link to a good honda only vin# resource that really goes into fine detail, anyone possibly have this link?

A friend of mine was curious as to the "G" or "H" part meaning in a del sol vin #..
