What is deck height? Someone please explain.

That's piston-to-deck height clearance, not deck height.

Deck height is the distance measured from the main saddles to the top of the block/deck.

 

Honestly i did not even look at the link in depth. I still have not. But from the things i glanced at are very informative. I will look at it in depth and respond.

 

Here's an example of the difference in deckheight between a b18 and a b16 block, notice how the b18 is taller:

Ok that was easy, do you understand poster. I would think one would like more technical aspects.

 

Deck height can be the total deck height from the mains to the top of teh block


There is another deck height, like when people say I want my block to have a zero deck, or a deck height of .000"

the latter example is one where the block has been assembled and the pistons are measured to see how far down in the hole they are, then you can cut the block to ensure that the pistons are at the top of the cylinder bore to ensure proper compression and better quench in the combustion chamber
