Maintanace questions
Hey everyone,
I'm a honda noob. I just got an 89 civic hatch (base model, no power anything, no a/c) for a daily driver. I need to change the timing belt and replace at least 1 cv boot.
I am wondering if it is common practice to change the timing belt and water pump at the same time, and if so what parts do i need to get.
Also is it a good idea to get split cv boots (easier install).
I've heard there is a guy on here that can get parts for dirt cheap so if anyone can refer me to him that'd be great. i'll post some pics of the car when i get home. It's not my only car so please no comments on modifying it because that's what my other cars are for, even though i'm sure it will get something change, just not the engine.
thanks for your help.

When was the water pump done last?
If you are unsure it would not hurt to change it. No you don't have to change the t-belt and water pump at the same time. But the t-belt should be done every 96,000 km(not sure how many miles that is)
Not sure what you mean by split CV boots. All the ones I have seen are one rubber boot that gets held on with 2 bands...

I am not sure when the water pump was done last, probably last time the belt was changed. i'm not goiong to risk it though. I'll swap it.
the split cv's you can slip on the halfshaft instead of having to remove the steering nuckle and slip them on the halfshafts.
