Default my radiator exploded today!!

i was just sittin there picking up my friend from school...didnt start to overheat or anything, anddd then!! boom and tons of smoke people screamed ahh it wasnt cool.

anyways i ripped it out right there and the top, near the cap had busted and cracked about 6 inches sending coolant flying all over my engine bay and windshied.

my question is what could have mad this happen? i just dont get how it could just break like that.
i went out and got another rad. and put it in and it works fine now, but this radiator i think is the wrong one. doesnt fit right, and its got 2 things on the bottom, i think theyre for collant lines for turbo so thats good!> haa

Since they're partially made of plastic, they tend to not last too long. Now I got an all metal one for my Teg when that happened. You can get one here:

sounds to me like they are for the tranny lines for an automatic. when you buy replacement radiators, they are universal for both auto and manual. just an fyi.......................glad you got it running though

nothing but auto tranny fluid goes in and out of those holes, think of it as a built in OEM tranmission cooler. the two fluids (being antifreeze and tranny fluid) NEVER come into contact. Just use the physical location of the radiator, built in, as a tranny cooler b/c of airflow present there..........

sorry to bump and old topic, but are you saying that those two hoses at the bottom don't matter?

i just bought a new rad, and the bottom has two flanges that don't really match up to the hoses... the top Rad hose and the bottom Rad hose are fine, though...

<--- a little confused...

-edit-
i have a Manual, but when i pulled the old rad, and disconnected the two hoses, nasty- *** oil (or i assume Tranny fuid) poured out- not a lot, mind you, but enough...

another thing, on the old rad, the part where the two 'tranny' hoses connected was seaparate from the Rad, and connected by what looked like Zip Ties... could i just use that old piece w/ the new rad? (plug the holes on the new one, i assume)...??
