Default Your first wheelie experience

I was just bored today so I decided to hop on the old motorcycle and cruise around a bit. Well before winter hit I was trying to get my wheelies down. It used to be that I could pop them up, but I could never ride them. Now I can ride them out. No greater feeling in the world, I say. What was everybody else's first wheelie experience like?

well when I was about 9 I used to take my huffy down the block and "stunt" in front of my friend's place. Believe me, at that time there was no greater feeling than being up on one wheel (for a few short seconds) on the wings of the greatest bike ever made... the Huffy.

hehe

Yeh man i learned wheelies on my 99 ZX-7 and man that was a bitch, never done em on a bike bigger than a 125 and those things you can just pull up, the ZX-7 was a pig to learn on but when i could bring her up ride it for a bit that was the greatest feeling...hehe...blew my fork seals learning though, stopped doing em after that....next bike willl be about the same power and about 120 pounds lighter so she should come up easier...good times man, good times

I've been learning on my f4i for the past few months now. I can ride out 2nd gear pretty decently. First gear is still kinda iffy...i can ride it for a little. I havent been able to ride my f4i for about 3 weeks now due to rain/broken bike. So i finally broke and took out the ex500 yesterday. I started practicing my slow standups w/ my left foot on the rear peg. I did a couple decent ones then last one i looped it. I jumped off and saw the bike 12 o'clocking for a sec then fall over. Worst part was cleaning all the damn oil off in the street. I dug up dirt by my mail box and put it over the oil then had to sweep up all the dirt. After that had to get buckets of water and clean off the remaining dirt in the street since my damn water hose was about 10feet short of reaching the road.

Before i bought my bike i swore to myself that i would keep the front wheel down, about a week after i got it it tried gassing it up in 1st and it floated right up, i was like "whoa! that was great!" now all me and my friends do is hit the long bridges and do wheelie after wheelie. after i got 1st gears down i learned to clutch 2nd gear sitdowns, then 2nd gear standups, now i'm standing up in 3rd at 120. so much for keeping the the wheel down...... haha

Dang, thats a death wish waiting to happen. I could never have the ***** to wheelie going that fast. I think anything over 80mph is pushing it.

Offset peg stand-ups are my fav . . . Why'd you jump off? Forgot about the back brake? lol

I can do slow and fast stand-ups, but I limit my speed to balance point at 60mph . . . there's too much of a price to pay if you loop one at 120 . . . in any event, keep it on one wheel You ever go to bike night on saturday nights?

How bout stoppie stories? I can currently roll mine about 60ft . . .

I jumped off cause it was my first time doing a standup and just came up so fast. I dunno first reaction was to jump off even tho i did have my right foot covering the rear brake..hahaha

lol when I first started, there were a few times where it came up really fast, except engine braking thankfully sucked the front wheel back to earth . . . but as I progressed, I learned that even though it fly's up, most of the time its still not as high as I can safely go . . . now I actually pull it up so it comes straight up, and just ride the balance point . . .

yea, i just got the stator cover all patched back up. Gonna practice more tomo on the shitty ninja 500 . The balance point is a lot higher cause i'm only going 5-10mph. I definitely need to get used to the feeling of floating when standing.

Hey stylos, how do you NOT blow your fork seals by slamming on the rear brake?? i blew mine just from doing normal wheelies, and i'm not a big guy or anything , i'd think forcing it down fast by using the rear brake would blow the seals for sure, better that than looping it though

As soon as I get my R1 I'll be able to just gas them up instead of clutch them up like I'm doing now. It will be alot easier then.

Easy, you don't slam on the rear brake You only need a little tap to bring the front wheel a little lower, say if you go past the balance point. I came down hard a couple of times trying slow wheelies, but whenever the front wheel starts to come down, I give it a little bit of throttle so it accelerates and comes down a whole bunch softer . . .

I know and i seldom do it, i prefer slow wheelies. The best feeling for me is pulling it up next to a car on the highway and just matching their speed.

That's what I'm going to try and learn is highway wheelies. I want to be able to just cruise at like 70 mph and slowly cruise by people in a wheelie.

I hear ya man . . . its the same at pulling it up in second, except faster . . . I can power mine up in 2nd, never tried 3rd, but could prolly power it up with the right amount of body language . . . otherwise the clutch is your wheelie friend

How 'bout a stoppie story . . . Here's one:

I ate it on one last week, I was almost stopped, still going about 15, started it at about 70, den it started to tank slap and threw me off to the side. I slid with the bike a few feet and then stopped . . . didn't hurt at all, rashed up the fairing a tad bit, but the bike is otherwise fine . . .

yeh tank slapping is never a good thing, thats when you just hope **** goes your way...sorry to hear that, i dumped the zx-7 doing a stoppie and hit some gravel, tank slap and down she went

edit : mine was only at like 30-35...heh...i didn't have the bike long enough to get the ***** to grab the brake at 70 mph....lookin back i'm glad i didnt, that bike didn't like stunts much...heh

What? Wheelies do blow fork seals if you come down hard enough times.
