Titanium or stock retainers?
hey guys, in a high compression (12.5:1) N/A motor should i use a titanium retainer? ive heard that they tend to wear quicker. are itr retainers just as good? let me know what you guys think. thanks
wassup len? happy b-day. can i rev those retainers fairly high, say 9200+ rpm's. not that i will be doing that everyday, but once and a while
i wouldnt rev 9200+ on stock ret, but then it matters on what cams you will be running?
If you are going to run stock cams no reason to go up to 9200, but looking at the compression i dont think you're running stock cams.
There is a special coating you can get on the ti. ret that basically eliminates all wear, i know JUN has a new type 2 ret that is already nitrite coated. Ive been using the JUN type 2 ret for about a year now, and just pulled the valve cover for a valve adjustment and still no wear, compared to a friends reg type 1 jun ret which are already starting to show some wear.

have you inspected for cracks yet or you're waiting for them to break on you ? very dangerous.
stock steel retainers will crack over time and high rpm rev limiter bounces, the stem starts to sink as well.
Do the same rev limit bounce with uncoated Ti retainers and they wear inside and become flatter and flatter, they just won't crack and break like the steel.

I have seen this on a couple different ocassions. Very scary. I check mine regularly.

Hey Greg,
I use to not have a fun limiter when I had hondata. Then some asshat put it at 9,100RPMs when I got the EMS.
So those runs weren't really bouncing off the rev limiter, more of just running up there and shifting. I was literally trying to blow the damn thing up just to see. But like Murphy's law if you want something to happen it won't.
