Car cutting out above 4000 RPM B17A
Hi all.. very bad day! I think i have a leak on my head gasket.
I took a picture for u guys and gals to have a look at.
The Engines got aprox 18,000 kms since the rebuild. I've got Wisco Aluminum Forged Pistons 9:1 and a zex kit to give me a little bit of extra power on the track in the summer. i do drive the car in the winter but obviously don't use the zex.
I noticed about a week ago that there was a bunch of oil in the one corner of my engine. So I went to a spray booth and cleaned it up pretty good so that i can see if there is a leak. A couple of days have now gone buy. Im noticing that there is a slight dampness in the corner.
Is it possible that its minorly leaking because of the cold weather out and maybe this leak may just disapear when things warm up or am i just dreaming?
Here is a picture of what i have noticed.

swap the img tags to load the picture.
which corner of the engine are you talking about??
oil does not leak out unless there is a problem or something isnt sealed tightly..if you just had some internal work done, it could may be the valve cover gasket..another common thing is the cam plug where your VTEC solenoid is..heres a picture for reference.

EDIT: i'm still a trial user crap on this forum, so cant use instant messaging.

i don't think its the valve cover gasket.. i wish it was.. i have an extra one just in case.
another thing ive noticed is that if i rev enough and the vtec kicks in the rpms start jumping around a bit.. only in vtec though.. do you think this may have something to do with the leak?
should i get a compression test done?
im a very fustrated integra owner today..

it could be the exhaust cam seal cap..that is a very common problem on the b series..i had the problem on my LS and the oil puddled up right where you said.

Check out this thread: http://student.ucr.edu/~ohe02/camseal.html . It's written by another HT member.
I replaced my seal with a STR one. You can also get a Golden Eagle one. If you're going to use an OEM one, make sure you get the newer design that has the O-rings.

are you shure you havent looked underneath the cam seal cap and saw a bead of oil right on the edge of the seal? because i didnt notice it till i ran my finger underneath it and sure enough oil was beaded up under there

the oil leak i had from the bad cam plug leaked down to that area on your picture 93GSRB17..i couldnt really tell where it was coming from until i cleaned the whole area and watched it like a hawk..finally saw the leak coming from underneath the plastic/rubber cam plug...replaced it with the blue STR cam plug i had pictured.
you can do a compression test but i doubt it is the culprit to your jumping rpm's in VTEC.

I went to visit my friend about a 30 min down the 401 from me.
The car drives fine during regular traffic speeds but i noticed a problem going onto the highway. What happens is i take the car into the higher rpms 4000-5000 the car starts to jerk and shake and the rpm meter bounces up and down like crazy.
Just to let everyone know.. the car is warmed up by this time.
If I stay below 4000 then everything is fine.
The V-tec normally kicks in at 5,600rpm.. and I know this is something way different.
things installed on the car.
cai/4-2-1 header/exhaust
a rebuilt b17a1 with 18,000kms on it.
i checked my oil level and its fine.
car idles fine
any ideas? please help.
years back, I had a corolla that had that same problem. If I can recall I had some system in it and it did a job with my electrical, the culprit was the alternator, I had that changed and all was normal again.
The alt or electrical <U></U>could be the problem, but not sure.
good luck!

I do have a system in my car but ive had it for years and its never been a problem.
i don't get why its happening up in the high rpms.

I think anywhere between 14.6-15.1, just look around the forums there are people who run really fast and some who run slow, it can only be driver error or your motor is in bad shape. I got a friend with a GSR powered coupe who has bad rings and he can only manage a 15.1. Do a compression check and a tune-up before your next time out. You might find a problem before it becomes a travesty.
Like everyone said, it can be the driver, bad motor, bad tires (traction), weather, and elavation...With I/H/E you should be hitting around 15.1-15.2 without stripping it....
So I had my buddy come for a ride in my car today and it died on me completely right on the road and then it wouldn't start after. Waited a couple of minutes then it started again.
still have no idea whats wrong

well there is something seriously wrong with my car now.
the oil is still leaking from the headgasket. i was hoping you would be write but i just don't see any leaks coming from the cam plug
last night the rpm jumping thing i was telling you about got crazy. today my car died on me on the road.
if i take my car past 3500 rpms.. the rpms start jumping around and the car starts to jerk/shake.
any idea?
