Tough Cam Question, need Advice!
I've heard that in a GSR you can replace just one cam with an ITR or CTR cam. I don't know which cam in the GSR has the more aggressive lobes.
But if you move the stock GSR cam (aggressive) one, and buy just one cam from the dealer, and put it in the other spot, would it work?
Would it be worth it, or be better to just buy both. I have a buddy who works at Acura so it would cost me half as much this way, and I think it may actually give the same if not better gains.
If I'm out to lunch tell me, if someone has done it tell me what they did.
Thanks for the help.
i have 00' typer's that work well. if there 99' and lower i believe u use ctr ic/itr ec, correct me if im wrong. i can get you a itr intake cam if u want it
like everybody said, you would only replace the stock cam and not swap it to a different location...if you can get a good discount on ITR cams, i would upgrade both the intake and exhaust cam..dont forget you will need to upgrade your valvesprings if you plan on revving higher than the stock redline.
Ok lemme see if i follow. Not looking for the best possible results just add a little more bangfor a tiny buck. I'm keeping the car for only one more summer, then 4 doors here i come.
So I'm supposed to leave my GSR intake cam where it is, buy a 2000 or 2001 ITR intake cam and replace my GSR exhaust cam with it? Is that the only way it will work?
I just want a little bit more speed out of the car, I have a skunk2 im and a full exhaust (hi flow cat and all), so i want to exploit a little bit more untapped potential out of them from the addition of the cams.
Correct me if Im wrong, but the skunk2 IM works best with i/h/e/ and cams, becasue the new cams let the car breath better (valves are open longer). So if i do what you guys suggested then, Im keeping my GSR intake cam where it is ...... so how is that gonna generate more power or more breathablity for the skunk2?
I was under the impression that the GSR exhaust cam was the good one, so I put the GSR exhaust one where my original intake cam goes and then buy another ITR cam to replace the missing exhaust one.
That would almost make sense to me, the GSR intake cam must be a bit less aggresive, as it was designed to have the two stage intake manifold runner design .... so I'm lost now........
Sorry if I'm asking dumb questions, I just wanna get my head around the situation, thanks so much for the help!
PS: my discount is not good, its just dealer cost which is still expensive! buying just 1 is still less then buying both or a set of TODAs or skunk2s

Both the ITR intake and exhaust cams are more aggressive then the GSRs. Some people just replace the intake cam, but if you're going to go through the work of putting in 1 cam, it is just as easy to put in 2...and the labor isnt really worth just putting in 1. Maybe people do it because the exhaust isnt a dual valvespring and u really need to upgrade the springs...I dont know, I dont recommend putting just one in though.
even swapping in the itr cams you still wont gain the full potential if you retain the stock gsr ecu. personally i wouldnt touch it until you can get yourself a chipped ecu and install the correct valvetrain parts........
just switch them both out.... not sure if the deal is still around...but some guy on ebay has sold A LOT to us ht-er's for $320 shipped for BOTH intake AND exhaust 01 itr/ctr cams

You can not switch intake cams with exhaust cams. Replace just the intake cam with that of an ITR or CTR. Or replace intake and exhaust cam with ITR or CTR cams.
You can swap your Intake valve springs over to the exhaust valves as they are a dual spring set up and have the same Honda part # as ITR exhasut valve springs. You would then need to buy ITR intake valve springs or something better for the itake valve springs.

am i mistaken or werent those cams fake?

NO. They are not fake. I bought one on those dealer. To check it before you install it, get a caliper and measure the lobe and compare on the stock ITR/CTR cams. Installing a cams is not like installing an aftermarket filter . It needs to be tune right so you will get the most out of it. The problem with that thread is that guy just installed it and it bogs all the way from 5000 to redline on a buttdyno. Installing an aggresive (from stock) cams you need to raise your vtec which you need to tune. BTW I suggest to get both cams intake and exhaust and for longevity of your engine get a stiffer valve springs also that will accomodate the seats of cams. Also try using the search and you will see a lot of answers about cams
