You'll find more of a difference between brands, rather than 1 megapixel. Also, settings as well. If you take a picture, uncompressed or even just at high res, then it will get more information. The image itself might be 2000x2000 or so, but you shrink it down and it will look fine for posting to the web, or even keeping the max size and getting it printed out on a 4x6.
But try different brands. I've found that the camera manufacturers (non-digital) are the ones that make the best lenses. And spending a few more bucks on one of those, like an Olympus, would be better than spending it on another megapixel.

this is the deal, its a panasonic av-30 i believe, VERY small fits in your palm, i can get it for 299 with mp3 player, voice recorder, 128 memory, the video recorder, and thats all i believe with a 2.0 mp. there is a kodak one i believe with 3.1 and video recorder with 16 mb of built in memory for 199. which would you go with? i can't decide at all!

do you really need all of that crap on your camera? okay maybe you do. panasonic - haven't seen or played with their digital cameras. you might want to look at the optical zoom, which probably isn't much at all (not digital zoom, that's different) and see how it compares.
kodak will be better IMO, but will not stand a chance up against an olympus/nikon. the pictures tell more than the words I can speak about them. so you must see the results to find out what is more important to you: an mp3 player / voice recorder / camera or... a camera that takes wonderful pictures.
