Default Sleeveing Maching Work

I was looking at the Exospeed sleeves that cost 290 bucks. I was wondering what the maching should would have to have to be capable of doing the isntall.

My uncles both have been machinists for about 20 years, and one owns his own shop, I was going to ask him if he could install the sleeves for me, but without instructions on how to install them, I cant really give him an idea of what needs to be done.

haha definitely a bad idea. do you understand the importance of the machinists experience? you have to have a sleeving machine, specifically for. dont cheap out on this or you WILL regret it, lol

Whats so funny, and why is it such a bad idea. I would venture to say that if my uncle has the correct machines in his shop, he would do just as good as a guy who has probably 1/4 the experience being a machinist.

I would trust either of my uncles to machine anything I needed, they are very good at what they do. There is a reason that exospeed sells the sleeves not installed, that is because other people besides just them are capable of performing the isntallation work.

Also, there is a local company here in Houston that has been doing Darton sleeves in LS1 motors for a while, and I might give them a call and see if they can do the install too.

for your info, v8 sleeves are very different of an install that inline 4's. tolerances on v8s can be greater than 4's. your uncles have a sleeve press? if so then they may be able to do it, if they have done it before, but they havent. so dont let them. you need someone experienced in sleeving to do it. not a regular machinist

Yes, I know a V8 sleeve is different, but that doesn't mean a shop cant do both.

Notice also in my initial post, I asked if someone could let me know exactly what was needed to do the removal of old sleeves, and the installation of the new sleeves.

No need to sound like you are pissed at me for asking.

People are just trying to help. Your plan is take information from a message board, and relay it to your uncle who has not sleeved a four cylinder before? It's just not a very good idea. That's why people are suggesting you go to someone who absolutely has experience with the particular sleeves and block.

I understand that people are trying to help, but if I recall, I asked for information, not peoples opinions.

You can give me an opinion if you like, but I would prefer it if you didn't do the following:

Laugh at my idea because you think it is stupid...
Tell me that it is a bad idea, without answering my initial question...or
Act like I dont know anything

I will say though, after reading my first post again, my first paragraph was a bit hard to understand. I was sidetracked when I was typing.

poorness does lick nuts. my buddy had a VERY reputable v8 shop sleeve his b16. this shop builds motors for SEVERAL proffesional teams and is one of the best in the business, but they fucked up his sleeves and didnt even know it. we went to start the motor and coolant was pouring into the cylinders. i will not reveal the name of the shop on honda-tech because it might be bad for the shop and i dont wanna be a dick. if your curious, send me a PM and i might tell you. i would have exospeed do the machining, i talked to wil at exospeed for about an hour last night and he raved about how good RS machines (they do all exospeed's sleeving work)is with 4 cylinder blocks. i would trust thier work anyday. i've heard nothign but good about them.
