Default overheating problem, help please!

ok, well thanks to a couple of you guys yesterday i pulled my old IM off and cleaned it to ensure no gasket was left of the old gasket because i was having a problem with the motor just revving out to no end when i started it. while i had it off i saw that i forgot to plug the evap purge hose on

well that fixed the revving problem. i started the car up and let it run for a while until it was fully warmed up and made sure it was good on coolant etc. drove it like 500 feet up the road to put air in my tire, was filling my tire and about done when i saw that the car was heated up to about two lines below the red on the engine temp gauge. i stopped the car and looked around for coolant leaks and saw none. double checked to make sure all my sensors were plugged in and what not. everything looked ok. i figured i would just drive the car home and figure out what the problem was there because i was on my way to get a new muffler put on. about 250 feet up the road i looked at the guage and saw it was very close to the red so i just shut my car off and coasted home. any ideas on whats going on? the specs on the car are...
d16z6
zex 59300 cam
jg valve springs/tit. retainers
d16y8 headgasket
stock cam gear

i really dont remember the fans kicking on...but they may have. the Tstat on this head was good when i pulled it off my old motor like 3 months ago but could it be bad now anyways?

also, could anyone give me a good breakdown of how im supposed to break in the new valvetrain? TIA

I'd say it's your thermostat just replace it and get a new one, they are pretty cheap

ok, the fan is definitely not kicking on for some reason. it is plugged in too...the motor seems like it's burning coolant still? some white smoke is coming from my exhaust only during semi-hard accelaration - but the sleeves were fine when i pulled the head and hte headgasket is brand new...

Start with the termostat. When it is overheating, check if the upper radiator hose is hot or not. If it's not hot, the thermostat is stuck closed and it's not letting coolant circulate to the radiator.
