Default Strange issue is going on with my speedometer....

Hey guys last night when I was driving home, I noticed that my speedometer needle sits at 0km/h and sometimes will jump to like 40, 60 then back to 0km.

It was working properly in the morning but when I was driving back home from the base, it started happening and the speedometer won't display my speed..

the Rev/gas/temp guages work.
This issue is with my stock instrument cluster, and never was altered or messed with....so I have no idea what the issue can be.

Also when I was driving home today, my check engine light came on, I'm guessing it's because of the 0km/h issue

please help
Thanks

Check all your grounds in your engine.

Espically the one that connects to the thremostat. Mine was loose and my speedo would bounce around, the tach would bounce around, and the car would bog bad.

But I never did get a cel. Perhaps something is wrong with your vss?

Thats what you get for living in Canada . No but seriously i would check all the grounds and you may end up needing to take off your dash to see if there isnt a loose connection with one of your plugs. What kind of car and how old?

I went and made sure all the ground wires were bolted on/tight and it dosen't seem to be happening now.

I'll see if it happens later at night

it's an issue with your VSS (vehicle speed sensor) guarantee the CEL (check engine light) code is for that. if you were to take it apart, clean it out, oil the shaft, and even possibly rifle it (like DSMs are) then it will either be fixed, or you may have to buy a new one. it could all even boil down to your tranny fluid being low. good luck

its in the back... u'll see a somewhat small cylindrical piece sticking up with a plug on top.....

this happened to me as well. it'd jump up and what not, i just unplugged it and plugged it back in. might have been a bad contact... either way, its fine now. i even got a new VSS when it had happened and it was still 'broken'... after playing with the plug, it worked fine. GOOD LUCK

You shouldnt need a whole new assembly with the VSS. Just look at it, it was probably sitting in there and lost a clip or the clip broke and came loose, this happened on a freinds car, go to Honda and buy a clip for the VSS for a few bucks. Or jus check it out and put it back in the DIY way (anyway possible) .... the CEL was from the VSS im 99% sure also
