1gen vs 2gen crx
ok what are the benifits from having a 2gen crx, me my self have a first gen and i just wanted to knwo why every one has a 2gen crx when there heavyer a little bit bigger, the onyl thing i can see is there is more 2 gens than first gens and if you put the same motor and setup in a first gen and then a 2 gen witht he same driver the first gen will win because i has close to 800 lbs less than teh 2 gen, any oen have a comment on this and what i said is not true but rather my opinion!
I've had the pleasure of owning both so I'll shed some light on this subject.
Basically the aftermarket industry has paid more attention to the 2nd gen CRX's. They have better engines to start off with, any d-series engine will swap right in, suspension was upgraded, and also for the fact that the whole front end is not plastic!
Don't get me wrong 1st gen's are great...had one for a while. You can do a lot with them, EX: 86-87 integra motors and suspensions bolt right in. But over time you can't find a good body 1st gen crx, they all rust to crap and parts are so ridiculous hard to find. Hope this helps!
PS - here's a shot of my beloved CRX.

I'm not exactly sure on this one, but i've seen some weight figures for the 1986 CRX that are only 80 LBS heavier than my '88. Also, at my local track thesecond gens will beat out the firsts 9 times out of 10. It also comes down to preference and what you can find locally.
i've owned both and i do have to say i like my 2nd gen about 10 times better. 2nd gen has better looks, handling, interior, aftermarket support. there are a lot of things that make it better. your right though they are lighter than the 2nd gens but not enough to matter. the 1st gens get much worse traction also. a friend of mine has an 87 crx hf with a b16 in it and when you go for a ride you feel like your in a death box, it just feels that unsafe. i personally am a fan of both but a much bigger fan of the 88-91 crx.
i have a 85 dx and dont really like it, but it does have great gas mileage. I'm looking into a second gen because they look a lot better and arnt so loud due to the carbed engine in the 1st gen rex's.
2nd Gen Si is Faster than 1st Gen
Double wishbone front and Independent Rear...kills the torsion and solid axel rear
2nd gen is more round
B swaps are easier and any good d series will drop in
More room for turbo
2nd gens pull more honies than the 1st gen

I have both. I can say this my second gen is the only one with rust oddly. Honestly both are old and showing their age but the first gens handling seems more 'direct' 'point and shoot'.
ok im on my friends name and he has an 85 si and i do too but he put a b16a in his i wanna do the same but i cant deside if i wanna put money into a 1gen i liek the looks of the 2gen but i have an 85 si with 65k original with an EW4 fuel injected, i smashed the front end and got parts froma junk yard and put it back togethere and then some idiot hit my rear passanger side fender and i guess macco said they will fix teh whoel car with paint job for 900 am i better off fixing and selling and getting a 2gen, hard to find with no rust and lower miles or just fix my 85 and do the swap with that?
