Who here has power locks?

Don't have em, but might get this instead. It's more practical, since thieves would have to jump through your [broken] window to get in.

I'll take pics of mine..but you want the actuater in line with the motion of the lock..
where that red one is attached is not the best place in my opinion

No, this would only be for security purposes, eg. when your car is parked and you want an extra layer of protection. I sure as hell wouldn't arm it while driving

I've already tested the actuator dozens of times with no problems. It actuates with very little effort. Plus I didn't have to cut away at the door
, which prob is necessary for it to fit up top for the panel to fit back on perfectly.
Unless you've tried it this way, I don't see how your opinion matters
, IMO

I didn't say it didn't work.....It would just be better if it were inline.
I have put actuators in my doors, inline and didn't cut anything.

Ok, but i didn't say you said it wouldn't work
. Is the actuator bulging out the door panel? There seemed like no space up there between the metal and the panel. I just felt no difference in force from a parallel position to this angled position in this case. Owell, whatever's easier for you people out there.

Go read the write up in the link above his pics. It tells you how to make them including a mechanical "emergency" quick release.

well you don't have to put it between the panel and the door..
I have always put it inside the door, near the lock portion of the door and not the handle..

Sorry, no pics... but mine are mounted near the external doorhandle. The rod from the actuator runs forward to the rod connecting the internal handle to the lock mechanism and there's a little screwed-together clasp that clamps the two rods together. The solenoid itself is mounted on a thin bar of metal that sits in the hole where the external doorhandle is. There's a big hole in the doorskin there, and right in the middle of that hole is the bar, and mounted to the bar is the solenoid. It's a pretty clean install and almost perfectly horizontal on my car. I've had 'em since '97 and they've never given me trouble.

In this pic, my solenoid is off to the left of the picture and it clamps to the stock rods that run off to the left.

lol...i guess i got shot down big time. I didn't see the text about "emergency handle" and yes it does make sense to only use it when the car is parked. I stand corrected and now it looks like a great idea!!!
