H23 VTEC hmmm
Ok guys how hard is it to run a H23 block on H22 head? Is there anything special you need to do? I was told the two block are identical and should just bolt right up. Now that was the exact words from a highly rated local speed shop. Thanks.

It is complicated. You need the entire head of an H22a, p13 ecu, and all of the timing belt gears on the lower part of the h23 block need to be changed out for h22 gears.
There is some machining of the coolant passages in the h23 block if you want to do it right.
With h23 pistons and an h22 head, I don't know what the compression ratio is. It might be pretty low.

I have all the H22 parts, I mean the engine is in my car working just fine until the block got cracked(dont' ask how). The CR on a stock H23 piston is lower but you will have more torque and VTEC will be bad ***. If I were to go with the H23 Block, I would rebuild it completely with higher CR pistons.

Taking all that into consideration. Would the popular opinion be to just do a full swap, rather then try to do all that crap? And then not even be confident it will work. Does anyone know anyone who has done it and is enjoying it w/o problems?
I need a short block, my 97 H22 heads are perfectly fine. JDM H22 isn't a huge difference compared to a USDM h22, but if you go JDM Type-S now that's what you call the McDaddy of all H22's. I have Type-S cams now and I was thinking about getting Type-S pistons if I get a great deal on a H22 short block. I'm thinking about sending the heads and intake manifold to get P&P while the engine is parted.

yes it can be done! I know a guy that just finished doing it in his 96 prelude Si. His timing belt broke and messed up the head so he decided to just swap in the H22 head on his H23 block. I think he spent over $3000 and he did all the work himself. Its running great and no major problems. But the only problem he is having now is it only redlines at 6500 and not 7500 so he's not getting the full potential of it. He is still trying to figure out whats wrong with it...
