I'm making a Maintenance Log and have a few questions:

1.) how often should you replace your ignition wires?
2.) how often should you replace your brake fluid (chilton's says every 30k)
3.) how often should you replace your thermostat
4.) how often should you get your valves adjusted, and where would you go to do that? (could i DIY?)


also, anybody have anything to add to this list (mine curently has 174,000)
the first numbers in the brakets are when it was changed last, second set is when it needs it next.

chiltons states to inspect dis. cap, rotor and wires at like 60k--but you probably know that if you know the 30k on brake fluid. as well inspect valve clearance every 30k according to chiltons. so it seems that we have the same info, and i didnt help at all.

have your wires and thermostat been changed since you owned her?

 

brake fluid...do you really have to change it every 30k? because we never change the fluid in any of our vehicles

i cant imagine you have to change the brake fluid every 30k, unless there are noticeable problems in the area. it probably couldnt hurt to replace the ignition wires, just for maintenance purposes.

you SHOULD change the fluid according to the schedule especially if you live along the coast, alot or rain, snow or humity in the air.
you have to bleed them out

 

i have a forth gen with 136k. I just changed my ignition wires about a month ago.

 

I would check out http://www.edmunds.com because they have a maintenance log and whats required along with registering with http://www.honda.com type in your vin# and your name addy etc, and they will mail you updates with what needs to be done at different intervals. Hope this helps.

Valves should be adjusted every 15,000 miles, which sucks for those of us who drive alot of miles

 

I sound like a salesman, but i just use the Haynes Manual. They have a whole sheet already set out.

 

where would i get my valves adjusted? could i do it myself?

It absorbs moisture from the air & that makes it corrosive.

Better yet, a Helm shop manual has a REALLY GOOD set of instructions... You said you've got a Chiltons manual. I would have thought that valve adjustment would be in there, too.

 

what would happen if i didn't change the fluid? (to my knowledge, mine never has been...would it make braking slower?)

 

If you didn't change your brake fluid I could see it rotting out the brake system, mainly the MC. It could provide worse braking (since it heats up) especially if its corroded etc.
