How did you run in the brand new, rebuilt etc..... motor? and the purpose?
How did you guys run in your rebuilt or brand new motor? 1000miles for under 3k RPM and vtec all the way to 8000RPM right after 1000miles? That doesn't seem to make any sense.
I still don't understand why you have to run in a motor. Cant you just drive it the way you will drive it everyday? and eventually, the motor will be run in right?
thanks

The rings need time to seat. Kinda like bedding in new pads and rotors. You don't go straight to a road race event after you put new pads and rotors on, do you?
Generally, on a motor with tight piston to wall clearance with cast pistons, I stay out of VTEC for 200-300 miles and I don't put much load on the engine. At 500 miles, change the oil and gun it.
On a motor with forged pistons, I go 1000 mile break in. Change the oil at 500 miles and don't put too much stress on the engine. From 501-1000 miles, I'll bring it into the VTEC range without giving full throttle.
I've been breaking my motors in on a mix of 3 quarts of 20w50 and 2 quarts of cheap *** SAE 30. Seems to do the trick.

Also small metal shavings will be created in a brand new engine. You don't want to rev 8,400 rpm with that **** in your oil.
Thanks Steven and Mike!!
I just realized what type of a threat I have started after reading some old postings at egroups.
I will change to synethetic at about 1000km or 600miles and then slowly bring into vtec crossover
and then change again at 2000km or 1400miles... I am not a believer of break-in oil **** either !!!

Well, since i change my oil every 2 weeks i stay on the nice and cheap castrol GTX
as long as possible. And I like to wait a bit for everything to get nice and worn
in before i switch to synth

I thought Castrol GTX is synthetic too? What's so speical about non-synthetic that will help to break in a fresh motor
better than synthetic. I am not trying to argue, but I just want to understand more. thanks
