Default vss = donkey nuts

welp, i think i have finally found why my speedo isnt workin anymore. I have a signal coming from the vss all the way to the ecu. but, im stillin throwin a code 17. I recently found out that i am running an automatic ecu. could this be my problem. the car is 98 civic, with a 94 b18c. It had been working for as long as i have had the motor in there until recently.

i have
replaced vss
checked all wires

is there a way i can tell that the ecu is bad? any suggestions on how to fix this?

Search ''vss'',''speedo problems'',''ecu problems''.

It seems like everyone is making threads that can all be found by searching.

Goodluck with your topic , but i know it can be found searching

i already searched. got useless info. everyone seems to be having the same problem i am. most are also about the plug on the transmission. mine works fine, its not "wiring" its something connected to the wiring... more than likely my ecu.

its a brand new sensor. i tried cleaning out the other one before i got it, still no dice.i thought there was maybe a short in the wire some where so the ecu wasnt gettin the signal. When i tested continuity it was cool...<???> i would really like to fix this all ideas are appreciated.

by the way when i cleaned it i took it out of the transmission and pulled the sensor off the mechanical piece. wiped all that **** outta there and hooked it back up.

i dont know how to tell if the ecu im running is manual or auto i know its a p72. it also says AT on it. makin me think its an auto, it very well might not be though.

where is the ground off of the trans? i checked the plug for continuity, wouldnt that determine if it was working or not?

On my stock 99 hatch [D16Y7] there is a ground wire from the passenger side frame rail to a bracket on the tranny.
