Default how much lighter are 88-89 doors than 90-91?

I have a 91 hatch and am trying to do some weight reduction.

Are these doors interchangeable?

bump, i'm curious about this also. if you have a rollcage(with door bars), would it be a problem to cut the doors apart and remove the ribbing and stuff?

My friends got a 91 Si and i have an 88 Dx...mine feel a good 10 lbs lighter AT LEAST. Just the weight of his door when opening and closing the doors feels a lot heavier.

Hope this helps a little,

Vince

Wait, I thought the '88 doors were the lightest. Most, if not all '89s had door-mounted seat belts. Can anyone verify?

The whole "seat belt on the doors issue" has been addressed many times before in this forum. If you are interested in this topic, use the search function.

Anyone have any information on weight of ef door?

The doors aren't interchangable from 88/89 to 90/91. If you look at the little black pc on the doors, you will clearly see that they are different. 90/91 blk door pc are wider.

That is one way I can tell if the car is a 88/89 or 90/91

the doors are the same size...the reason for the wider molding is cover the seat belt ***. they will swap but then you dont have seatbelts unless you get the belts as well and mount them to the body

the frame on the B pillar is also contoured a bit different. The 90-91 have those 2 metal pin and the matching plactic thingy on the door. The way the rear side glass mounted to the door is also different. so the plastic moulding on the door and on the rear side glass is not interchageable.

All 88's were pillar mounted belts. 89 Hf was also pillar mount. All other 89's and 90-91 were door mounted. So from that, the front bumper, or rear tail lights and the presence of a sunroof... you can pretty much tell what year a crx is and what model... for the most part.

Easy answer is yes the do fit.
You can pull the belts and impact beams out of the 89-91 doors and put some harnesses in.

**** ok some of u guys dont know what you are talking about...the door mounted seat belts are in usdm cars only...i have 3 crx's the only one that has door mounted seat belts is the usdm car, also my 89 civic dx doesnt have door mounted either, the reason that the doors would be heavier is because it is usdm and they wiegh a good 15 lbs more than jdm

Does your cage cover you in side impact? If it doesn't you may want to retink removing that stuff from doors.

You should reall watch your mouth and get a brain. usdm cars come with door mounted and pillar mounted. All the doors are not interchangable. dx and si have heavier doors obviously but these doors wont fit on an hf, they are thicker and your door wont shut all the way. 88 89 hf have pillar mounted seatbelts. now regardless of the year canadien cars have all door mounted seatbelts. 88 89 si and dx have pillar mounted and 90 91 have door mounted.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by wpgcivic &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">did u buy it new, because EVERY single usdm car ive seen (30+) had door mounted seat belts, ive never ever seen one w/o it</TD></TR></TABLE> You must have not paid attention enough because out of the 30+ cars you have seen i am sure that some had pillar mounted seatbelts.

Oh yea if you have the 91 doors you can get hf doors and yes they will be lighter by about 10 pounds (already stated) but if you want door mounted seatbelts you have to stick to the same years 90 91.

Older hatches, 88-89 don't have door mounted belts, newer ones do. Mine is USDM was not built in Japan, came with the DPFI 1.5 lump under the hood. I never saw a 88-89 hatch with door mounted seatbelts, nore have I seen a 90-91 hatch without them. Mine was made in Canada, still has the lable on it saying so.

Right above this post I said they do work.
I have seen it done and if I could find some mint HF's local I would do it.

Some body said the doors have a different shape and are wider?
In canada the dont not have door mounts.
In the usa we have door mounts.
Do you think they actually changed the shape of the unibody?
Some people put on JDM doors on 89-91's and they dont have door belts.
Honda is cheap so they reuse everything they can, the doors are the same, the belts are different, the only cosmetic difference would be the skinny piller were the belts would normally hang from.

88-89 didn't have them I am saying, Mine has always been in the USA, its a 1989 Hatch, and has pillar not door mounted seatbelts. 90-91 Canadian market cars may not have had them, I don't know , but the US market cars did, but only in 90-91, my 89 does not have them, nor does anyone I know with a 88-89 hatch have them, CRX thats different maybe, but this is about a hatch, not a CRX.

As far as if doors fit or not, I can't answer that.
