Default Help Please - Tachometer cuts out, car hesistates

I have a 97 Accord Ex V6, the tachometer cuts in and out while driving, dropping all the way to zero, when it does this the car hesistates and also cuts in and out. It seems to happen most in D4 (auto). What is the tach hooked to (wiring) that might be loose or causing the intermittent cut out? Or any other ideas on what it could be? Thanks in advance. Cheers.

The 5th gen Accord v6 gets it's tach signal through a resister in the coil. Usually when they act up there will be a CEL, but not always.

Thanks for all the replies. I had the codes pulled and it said faulty engine speed sensor, would that also cause the problem? And it said bad? ignition fire, would that be the coil?

a speed sensor is what makes the speedo go nuts most the time, replace that and it should be fixed.

Where is the best/cheapest place to get parts online?

And how could I tell for sure if its the coil or the speed sensor?

A bad speed sensor wont affect the tach.
