Well...I'm in the middle of dropping my transmission. Its a pretty time-consuming job. I am to the point of actually removing the motor mounts and taking the tranny off. However, I need help on removing one of the starter bolts. I can't seem to get a good enough angle to remove it. It is the one closest to the rear of the engine bay. Is there any good way of removing it?? I need to know by tomorrow night. Thank you.
you might need a 6" extension with a wobble head and 12mm socket. you cant see it but you can feel it with your hands so you just have to feel where the head of the bolt is and get the socket on it. stick the ratchet way down the back side of the starter where you have plenty of room............
it's a long bolt to........
good luck

see, that's the problem...I know where the bolt is. I just can't get a good enough angle to actually undo it. Would one of thos swivel heads for the ratchet work? (i'm assuming that's what was being refered to as "wobble head") Anyways, I'll give it a litte more work later tonight after my classes.
the wobble head extension is just like a regular extension but the head where you attatch the socket to is not perfectly square. it's offset to give the socket some "flex" so you can work on slight angles........
even a flex joint adapter will work.......

It's just a matter of getting the right combo of socket, extension, and wratchet. I didn't use any special U-joint or other tricks.
Glad to see you doing it yourself. It's sick how much mechanics charge, and I'm sure you will do a better job because you actually care about the car - bravo !

Yeah, I wanted a mechanic to diagnose the problem, so i took it somewhere to get an estimate. His estimate was $820 total. (parts/labor) Well..I get parts cheap, so it made no sense to have him do it. If i could just get that last damn bolt off...

Oh geez...That job was NOT fun. I am 99.999% done, so I'm turning in for the night. I can only hope I did everything correctly. Man, I'm worried...I can't wait to start it up tomorrow afternoon.
