Default 5th gear grind

I have a 94 and when i'm drivin hard or should I say when i shift at 5-6k rpms it grinds when i put it in 5th, but say i'm doing normal driving and not speeding it shifts into 5th with ease and no grind. Can anyone help me out on why its doing this?

I have the same problem on my 94' accord, but it grinds if i try to put it into 5th gear even at 3,000 rpm and above. I know this isn't helping you really but I have the same problem and I tried different transmission oils (like thin stuff 10w-30 and thicker stuff like sae 40). I was told that the syncro likes thicker tranny fluid but mine seems to grind a lot less when the transmission's hot.

Yeah you are shifting too hard. If you slam it into gear its not going to like it. Would you like it if someone were too jam your finger sideways? If you keep shifting like you do you wont have to worry about 5th gear or any other gear for that matter!

no, it grinds even when shifting in normal driving, like just casually going from 4th to 5th and i think it is my syncro b/c i did see some of that gold stuff in the drain pan. After driving for a long distance(like over an hour of highway driving) i can shift into 5th w/ no grinding at all so im pretty sure it's my syncro. Anyone know how much it is to replace?

It's kind of expensive I've heard. And yes it is your 5th gear synchro. I wouldn't be driving it that hard anymore until you get it fixed or a new tranny.

when having grinding issues i would try first using honda mtl, then redline mtl, and then gm synchromesh. if those don't work then you got a problem.
