Another LS/CRV-vtec discussion
Personally I don't see the reason for all the hype over the LS/CRV-vtec. First off the GSR puts down more torque than the LS block. Second, I know the CRV puts down more torque, but the cylinders are the weakest of all the honda's.
And, if I were going to build a LS/VTEC-vtec I would want to put in vtec oil squirters and upgraded rods and pistons. If I did that with the CRV I would still have weak *** cylinders if/when I add boost. Also with the two above blocks you ain't got no crank girdle.
My point I guess is why mess with all that, just buy a GSR, eventually sleeve it and put in new rods and pistons. Then you already have the vtec oil squirters as well as the crank girdle. Plus you don't have to shop around and deal with different people to scrounge up the parts you need, cause its all included in a swap
I know the one big thing with the LS/CRV-vtec is that is can be done cheaper than a new GSR swap. Also you can add and mix and match parts from better honda lines.
So can any one tell me why I would do an LS/CRV-vtec build up if I had the cash to buy a GSR swap (with future plans to sleeve it and build up the bottom end)?

If you have the cash to go with a c1 swap, do it. (better yet, a c5) But for alot of people with a limited budget who put together a motor paycheck to paycheck, LS/Vtec makes sense because you can build it slowly. Thats how i did mine.
I have said time and time again if i could do it over id go with a c5 swap and some toda or jun cams and call it a day. But you live and learn. If i had done it that way, i wouldnt have gone through the process of tearing apart my b18a block and learning sooooo much about how everything works, same with the b18c1 head i used.
