Default Fitting an LS/VTEC under a stock hood.

Hey guys, I'm the idiot who crashed his 1991 CRX Si with the LS/VTEC... I know I should look harder but I can't seem to find the info I need under search.

Yeah well back then I was using the JDM "ZC" Hood (The one with the bulge in it) I'm using Hasport mounts and with my LS/VTEC (which is 8mm higher than a b16) I'm having some issues with clearing my valve cover with the new *stock* hood I got from a 1988 DX CRX.

Right now my car is still pretty bent out of shape (fenders not fitting right, I think the bumper needs to go forward another inch at least, but regardless)

Where do I need to cut / hammer (and any tips on doing this) to get it to close easily and not bang up my valve cover?

Put the motor in the car then put grease on the valve cover and pull the hood down then lift it up, were ever you see grease cut the underhood skeleton.

Some of us care more about being fast then being trend ******. Sure it looks clean but I have more important things to care about like beating people with $500 front ends.

Thanks for the tip kid-Honda, are there any specific parts of the underhood skeleton that are specifically needed to keep the rigidity of the hood?

You can strip it all but hood pins would be a good idea and it will be a little flimsy but alot of people do strip them.

actually i wasnt talkin bout being trendy the jdm hood gives you way more clearance than the stock and the zc hoods
but will also look nice...and you said you banged up the front

As I said before, been there, done that.

Not worth another $150 plus to me. I care more about being incognito and having a fast sleeper.

i used an HCP mount kit on my b18c which i know positions the engine a little bit differently but to prevent and scrapping at all....all it took were a few washers inbetween the hood latch and the hood, this is definitely good and easy for 1/4 inch but anymore its way obvious at the sides...

of course its way obvious that your car is all bent out of shape so a slightly protruding hood doesn't seem to drastic in my opinion.

Yeah, the eyebrows on the headlights are fagtastic along with the cheap *** black housing corner lights. Not to mention the bonbo molded Si-Lip....

Please realize I bought the car off a mexican who realistically knew nothing and payed $5000 for a b16 swap and blew it up the first week he had it.

So I've been bending stuff back out, radiator fits fine now but car is still bent to crap. Need to now push out hte bumper more because the new hood is looking just like the SiR one does in the picture.

I know you want to keep it stealth-like, so this idea may not be for you, but would putting some washers between the hood and hinges give you some more clearance?

That's what i had to do - to get my B18C to fit w/ the stock hood. I'm using Place Racing mounts which are like hasport in that they sit the engine significantly higher to give you the most ground clearance possible. This took me like 15 minutes to do with tin snips.

my ls vtec fit perfect except for my intake was made custom due to my battery being in the way, and i dont want to mount it in the rear, its not bad though, runs nice, getting it tuned for better perf :D

I've got an LS/VTEC swap in my CRX, with Hasport Mounts. My crank doesn't rub, but when my motor bucks (especially when its cold), it comes up and hits the hood, its not going to do much of anything, just a little rub wear on your head and bottom of your hood. If you drive really hard, you might develop a crack on the top of your hood. This is from experience ill try to get pics up as well later.

Hasport has two different mount systems for 88-91 cars.

1 mount kit is for the shorter b16 motor.
the other is for the b18 motor which sets it lower to the ground.
