Roll Cage legal for Production & NHRA?
I was wondering if a cage legal for Production Class SCCA would also be legal in NHRA events or vise versa? I havn't got my new GCR in yet and I cant find my old one ANYWHERE to look up the cage requirements.
Does anyone know if a cage can be built to meet both sanctions requirements? Hopefully my new GCR will get here soon

No, NHRA specs are similar but 1 5/8" x .118" minimum tubing specs. If you build your cage to those specs, you could run both.
This question came up at the fab shop when we were building my CRX. They are big in IHRA and had not done an SCCA/NASA cage before. The GCR-is and always will be your guide on road racing cages IMO. Keep in mind that the tubing we require is similar but not necessarily the same as a drag cage. Do look at our door bar rule too. Get the NHRA/IHRA rulebooks and verify. Another important point is that we are required to be able to get out of the car in a specified period of time-a drag cage may change that. You also do not need or want the multiple hoops around your head used in some drag classes. If you buy a cage from Kirk, Art Morrison or Autopower you will find they can do the job for most events; particularly street stock types or RR/AX.
Good luck

The answer is no...NHRA riquires a bar covering from the Main Hoop to the left front to start as the drivers left shoulder....SCCA requires a door bar or Nascar bar style on the drivers left side. I also think that NHRA doesn't require DOM metal.. I hope this helps.
