Default comptech icebox question...

whats up , i did a search for a comptech icebox but i didnt very far... after a month of thinking about getting an aem cai, i'm kind of leaning towards the comptech icebox,....is it just me or is the comptech icebox really easliy made with the stock ari box by attaching an extra pipe that extends down behind the signal??? if that's the case..i'll just try to make it myself...

also, to those who have experience[own, or ridden in] with a gsr with an icebox...is it pretty loud when you gun it? as loud as aem cai??

im just looking for a little performance boost with safety, hence the ice box...but on the same token, i want the engine to scream, ha

help me out !! thankss

This has been discussed a lot but I think the search function only goes so far.
Anyway, I do have the Icebox on my GSR after I dumped my AEM (when it rubbed a hole). The Icebox IMO is the best $ I spent on my car. It is quiet at idle, only makes a subwoofer like sound when you floor it. The gains, you will really notice it in the GSR since the OEM intake is semi warm air.
Although the craftmanship of the box itself is no where near as good as OEM. Overall, BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT

you can use the stock intake tube like I am using.
You don't need that $198 piece of metal

Do you know how you DIY icebox compares to the real thing? I mean, it looks pretty much the same, and it couldn't "work" that differently. I mean, air from the outside flows into the box through a tube, right?
Wht pay almost $200 for a plastic box and some tubing when you can make one for under $25???
Unless you don't want ghetto mods. Personally, I think DIY is preferable. Ingenuity, you know?

BSQ, Geocities givies an error message when I try to go to your site. It says that you are "over your allocated data storage size" or some BS like that...

I have a similar setup done with all the stock parts.

I cut that big air box under the fender off of the tube, so that all that remains is the piping that goes from the fender well to my stock air box.

I custom fit a KN filter in the stock airbox as well.

I leave the top off of the airbox unless I am racing as I am lazy and probably wouldn't take the top off when it rains. I may do a dyno with the top on and the top off, to see if it makes a difference at all, asside from sound.

I am going to probably be getting a different filter, i remember a post a few days ago going over which filter is best, and the KN was second best for filtration

edit: I found the thread

Yeah...Geocities has been giving me that message lately. I think that when a webpage is viewed several times in a short period Geocities displays this message. The only thing that I can suggest is to just retry periodically. FYI, I just linked to the page and it worked.
