Lap around Road Atlanta video
Here is a clip from a recent track day I did at Road Atlanta with the Type R. The car is stock and riding on 205s kumho v700s. The clip is of one full lap minus the back straight. It starts at turn 10 and finishes after turn 7. A friend (also a honda tech-member) was riding along and we were trying to figure out if using 2nd gear for 10a and 10b helps at all. It would have helped even more if kept it all the way to redline, but as I always do in all track events I try to short-shift at 8.0K rpm to be easier on the engine. After all, this is not a race...

The second clip is of one of my runs from the last autox in Atlanta. It's far from a mistake-free run! But it's the only time I had my friend's digital camera in the car to take videos.

I have a few other videos with which I’ll replace these soon since I have very limited web space right now. Hope you guys like them!

wow, awesome videos!
And thats the 1st time i've ever heard V700s squeal, i didn't think they did. You must of been pushing the car REALLY hard.

yea that was quite bad ***. The only thing I saw, dunno that track at all, but it looked like there was a lot of hand movment on the steering wheel. I was taught to try to keep it at 10 and 2 and not the slid your hands on the steering wheel, one of those last 2 or 3 turns you like reached up and "cranked" the wheel to the right. I cant really tell by the vid how sharp that turn actually was, so maybe that was neccessary. That was some bad *** driving though!
Those v700s definitely make noise at the autox!
It really doesn't matter how you hold the wheel as long as it works effectively for you. General rule is to start at 3 and 9 and that's how my instructor (Tom Fowler
) taught me when I did my scca schools. Tom actually holds his hands below 3 and 9 on the wheel, while my co-driver at 10 and 2 most of the time. I like 3 and 9 and as most people I don't really think about where I have my hands on the wheel while driving. Maybe I should have found a better lap where I don't play with the wheel like a maniac in turn 1.. but it's interesting seeing how the car reacts to inputs. All day I played around with the car like that to see how it responds. Since it is so different than the ita crx it really made it interesting. Bottom line, no matter what car we drive, being smooth is the fastest way around, which also makes tires and brakes last for a longer time on the track
(bad news: it looks like I'll have to take the videos down really soon, my school server is giving me a lot of trouble...)

Thanks for posting that, Alex. That was a fun ride. Interesting to watch from the video. It lets you analyze the run a little better. It also doesn't look like you were as sideways into 1 as it felt...
