Default A couple of overall questions about H22 hatch's

I'm ready to buy another car, and up until a couple weeks ago had my heart set on a prelude (97+). However, I am growing more and more fond of h22 Hatch's, so I have a couple of questions for those of you with one, or who have experience with them. Thanks in advance!

- How is the ride quality and road noise? This car will be a daily driver, and I want something that feels solid (still want a honda, haha...so I need a middle ground). I would most likely try to find one w/mild suspension upgrades done.

- What are the average 1/4 times on street tires with I/H/E? I am guessing anywhere from 13.5-14.5?

- Is it nearly impossible to get a swapped h22 w/out CELs? I have saw only a few here on HT, most have cels.

That's basically it, I am just debating, and know it would be quite a bit quicker on the street than just a prelude. I'm guessin like .7 quicker or something. I am used to driving a stock integra LS w/only a GSR tranny, so I think it will be quick enough for me, and still reliable. Any input/advice is greatly appreciated.

** I know these are kinda vague questions, and depend greatly on different variables, but just post your experiences, or the average answer....

My general experience is if you have a reputatble shop do the swap for you, you wil have little to no problems.. If you venture off and try to do it yourself then you will definately run into issues but once the bugs are all worked out you have a killer car with speed and torgue to match most others..

My suggestion is to read all you can, do your research, double check by asking questions, plan it out right and you will be fine..

Lord knows I have had plenty of issues with my swap but I can finally say as of last year it has been running very smoothly and I will start putting her up on the track and dyno very soon..

Thank you, that's what I am worried about (good swap being done). I do not have the time, or confidence in myself to do this swap, so If I buy it, it will have to be swapped already. So I am not sure what to do. I may just buy a low mileage 00 or 01 prelude, and be done with it. Thanks for your input...

You are looking at 1/4 mile times in the mid to high 14's with I/H/E and street tires, possibly even low 15's depending on hatch model, weight, driver skill, weather and other variables.

The swap can be done without having CEL on. I have no CEL's, but I did not perform the work, I bought the car built so I can not advise further.

I have no problems with driveability, but suspension, and braking system is fully built as well. Cornering is another issue though. While not bad, my 92 Teg with only Tokico blues, Intrax springs, and a front strut brace, blows away my H22 hatch in the twisties.

When i searched, someone did low 13's with I/H/E on Azenis...

From what I have read about h22, if the swap is done right, problems are minimal.

However, if its a ghetto swap, prepare for a ruff ride.

There is alot of info out there in the archived forums.. Also at the top of this forum is a post on h22 swaps.

There are also quite a few h22 swaps out there....Newman has mounts for this swap, and from the posts I read about him... He has had 0 axle issues...

Just search bro.. hope this helped you out a little

if your h22 hatch is only running mid to high 14s then i'd say something is wrong with it. high 13s should be easy on street tires. mine is low compression (9:1) and i ran 14.1 @ 99 mph on the shittiest tires on earth (175/65/13 goodyear aquatreads).

Yeah that's what I was hoping, I mean high 14s? if I ain't going to be able to get in the 13's with it with I/H/E, then to me it is a waste of time..

There's a lot of variables to look at. Driver capability, tire size, track location, etc. I went to the track once last year and ran a 14.5 @ 99.67 mph with a 2.7 60 ft on shitty 195/45/15's. That was with a custom 2"exhaust, stock manifold and stock airbox. With my setup now I should be in the high 13's, assuming I can get a good launch on street tires.

I drive mine daily 50 miles or more a day. No problems, stock cx brakes, stock struts on ebay coilovers for now and it is not too bad, car is close to stock height.

I have put over 6000 miles on the car so far.

It is very loud but that is b/c of my exhaust

Do it, anything less would be uncivilized

anyone have an estimate of top speed? I am nearly positive that I am buying a h22 hatch now, just looking over the ones here on HT. I hope to find one around 5k, or 6 if I must IF any of you guys know where there is one on the east side of the country (closer to KY, or Oh, the better) let me know! thanks to all!

As for ride quality: I have Koni yellows with Eibach prokit springs (for Integra GSR) and Energy suspension bushings. I have yet to get wheels and tires, so I'm using the stock VX 13" rims and tires. I have to say the ride is rougher than I wanted, but thats what you pay to have a pretty good hanlding car. I haven't driven much else hard and I'm sure there are way better handling cars. I'm happy with it though. I also have manual steering which is a little annoying. There is a good amount of road noise especially on the highway at 75. The urethane mounts transmit engine noise throught the car. I have an Apex'i WS exhaust for a civic si (5th gen) and it keeps exhaust pretty quiet. Overall it is not a refined car, but I love it just that much more because it'll kick some ***!
