OK....installed a new short shifter
hey guys i put in my new short shifter like 15 mins ago and i dont like it. It feels to stiff and its hard to get it to go in gear, reverse especcialy. When yall put yours in was it stiff like that? Will it get looser? or should i just put back the old one?
Also, make sure you didn't tighten the linkage around the shifter too tight. When I put mine in, I did that the first time. So I loosened it up a bit, and it was perfect.
Also you need to realize. all a short throw shifter does is change the pivit point. lengthening the bottom side and shortening the top. thus reducing your leverage/mecanical advantage. making it harder to get into gear.
And make sure your shifter isnt hitting your exhaust pipe Ive had that problem with three of my EFs....And make sure the bolt that runs throught the bottom of the shifter connecting the shifter to the shift-linkage isnt too tight like H82BLGL said...
it is supposed to be a little harder to shift<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Eresuncabron »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Also you need to realize. all a short throw shifter does is change the pivit point. lengthening the bottom side and shortening the top. thus reducing your leverage/mecanical advantage. making it harder to get into gear.</TD></TR></TABLE>.
here is a test. let someone sit in your car and shift it. if they get it into 1st, on the 2nd or 3rd attempt then it is perfect. if it takes more than 3 tries for any gear except reverse then something is too tight or binding. (this test is based on my car with someone who is not very good at doing two things at one time much less driving a manual car attempting to shift.)
when i did my shortshifter it came with some grease that went around the bottom ball of the shifter. i overtightened the nuts on accident but it still felt perfect. i also reused all the washers and rubbers around the shifter ball.
i would trade I/H/E for a short shifter any day. it just makes the car fun to drive.

I had a short shifter once.....now I hate them
Ive found that for the hastle, and missed shifts at the track, or auto-X its just not worth the 0.000013412343412 seconds you save shifting.

oh also if its not going into 1st try letting out the cluch in Neutral(i can't spell) and pushin it back in. that should help
( instead of pushin it into 3rd then goin to the gear)
good luck.
