how much power would the insight have?

why do you race these cars?

I think you are on a different level than the rest of us man.

It means taking an engine from one car and putting it in another car, usually lighter. And thus the advantage... a better power to weight ratio.

I swear, people make me laugh so hard sometimes.

There are two reasons that a gasoline/electric hybrid is good.

The first is that a gasoline engine is most efficient in only a small RPM range. By having it run within that range while charging the battery (to run the electric motors), you can get real good fuel milage. This is what is done in railroad trains! The engine only charges the batterys and electric motors drive the unit.

The second reason has to deal with what is called "infrastructucture". What that's refering to is that there is already a gas station on every corner where you can get more gas. There isn't currently an infrastructure of "re-charging" stations for a totally electric car. If it wasn't for the infrastructure problem, I think that the "hydrogen fuel cell" cars that Mercedes are working on would be a fantastic answer. However, I sure wouldn't count on getting it "re-filled" at the local Arco.
