Here's the situation: I have a 99 si with toda spec b cams and internals, mugen ecu, wired up obd1, no cat and fail emissions. I turned my fuel way down on my vafc and ran with a SOHC civic obd1 ecu (p28) and passed cruising but failed idle for hydrocarbon. passing is 220 and i put out 309. any ideas on what to do with out paying to have a cat welding on? ....Im runnin a straight pipe right now.

go to napa and get a cat...spend the 20 bucks to have 2 flanges welded to each end of it and bolt it on..then pass emissions ..cats from napa are 80-100 bucks depending on size

i had the same problem, to pass low speed i turned up my idle to like 1000 rpms and went to autozone and bought this **** "berrymans pass emissions" and that helped burn off the hydrocarbons at idle. when i first did the test i was at 318 then with these to things i got it down to 201. i think turning up the idle helped out the most Good luck and that should work for you

your going to need a cat to pass and make sure you get it good and hot before the test.

If I was inspecting your car you'd never pass - you are lucky and should be grateful they even ran it on the machine, what with OBD-1 and no cat.

Get a cat and you'll be almost guaranteed to pass. My 2000 Si puts out 0 emissions in both tests.

He should feel lucky he isn't in GA where you have to pass OBDII. No other test is allowed for 96 and newer vehicles.

That's funny you suggested this because I just decided I wanted it done and didn't wanna fus with anything. I went to Napa and picked up a universal cat for 93 after taxes and am having it welded on mon. by my friend's bro. I came home and checked this post to see the replies and that's what i did. I'll let you know how the results are.. I dont think i'll have a problem
