installing cams in s2000 need help
i am working on a s2000. i have a cam kit with valves and all. when i prep the head do i have to lap the valves or is there a different way. i noticed that they are aluminum. or is there anything else i have to watch out for. thanks
I don't know too many folks that have tried this. What cams are you installing? (well, this might be a dumb question now that I think about it, because I think that Toda is the only company currently making cams for the F20C.)
Just check the instructions that came with the cams, the recommended clearances should be in there. If not, just keep it within spec. Remember, cams are cams. Sure, the ones you are installing have a slightly different characteristic than the stock ones, but they do the same thing mechanically, open valves.
I'm not sure what you meant by "lap" the valves though? Are you referring to valve overlap? And when you say aluminum, are you referring to the valves? No offense, but I'm going to have to disagree with you there. I'm pretty sure the valves are steel (maybe stainless?)
Are you going to do any mild porting of the head? What cam gears are you installing with your cams?
And last note, get a Helms manual if you don't already have one. Trust me.

you only lap valves when you're changing the valves similarly you would have to recheck valve spring height.
The installation you're trying does not require that, simply install springs and retainers and camshafts.
