Default Zero Shift Transmission

Saw this and quickly realized the upside to this tranny is huge. Just hope it can be easily retrofitted to existing cars. Continously uninterrupted power and seamless clutchless shifts under acceleration, deceleration, and turning. Sounds good to me!

Be sure to read the pdf. link too.

Its a great concept. I wonder if it will be as cheap to manufacture as they say, maybe we'll see it for our cars "someday".

you could always subscribe, for "only" $79. I just can't bring myself to spend that much on 12 issues of any magazine.

Sounds like a great idea. In fact after reading the first page my instinct told me I better look at the cover and make sure it wasn't an April issue.

Very good article. The last info I read on CVT's or IVT's is that their weakspot was accepting reasonable to high torque levels. Most of the CVT's were only successful in cars with less then 100 ft/lbs of torque.

Doesn't Audi or Saab have a car with the CVT tranny. I thought one of them did but I may have not been in the states.

Edit: as I look back are re-read the thread I realize that the Zero-Shift tranny and the CVT trannies are 2 different things.

well, the new nissan murano has a cvt optional, and it can handle the 250 lb-ft of torque that suv puts out!

Honda CVTs aren't that strong. We mated a D16Y8 to a CVT Civic HX. It was pretty quick until the tranny took a dump.
