i just put an AEM CAI on my '00 type R. OH MY GOD, when vtec engages, its like im going deaf. When vtec kicks in, i feel a slight pull after 6,500RPM, but vtec isnt like a turbo, you wont fly when vtec kicks in right??

 

Yes it is loud, no you won't fly

 

Is it louder than when you just take the cover off the airbox?

 

i know the feeling. When i put R cam in my GSR, my VTEC was VERY much louder! My friends were "like whoa". the mid to high-range pulls pretty good.

 

yes, maybe its the differnt intake tubing that makes it louder???!!!

 

I've got an AEM as well and one day I went through this large tunnel (under a building) under full acceleration and my girlfriend almost had a heart attack .. when we hit vtec in 3rd guy

PS. I almost did too

 

the sound from the AEM actually gets quieter as you complete your mods (header/exhuast)

plus over time you just get use to the sound to the point where you don't notice it much

i've had the aem on my R for a while now, i don't even remember what the car sounded like stock

oh, and i love that banshee like wail
scares the sh#t out of any body in the next lane

the tunnel thing: you just have to experience for yourself

my friends and I were driving on the highway and they decided to take off and i had to go catch up...so i dropped it into 3rd and it landed right at 6,500 lol and the guy next to me in the right lane had his window open, and when i gassed it, the kid riding with me started cracking up cuz the guy on the right got so startled and his face was just priceles....a combination of lol

 

i remember when i thought that was loud.....

now try open header for those who really want to go deaf...

factory exhaust is now back on and makes the car quieter... Maybe a little slower too...

 

It gets quieter??? I don't think so.. After putting on the header and exhaust all I hear is the intake at full throttle.

 

do you remember what the AEM sounded like at full throttle with the stock header and exhaust

don't tell me the mugen stuff is actually quieter than stock

 

Its the resonator on the stock intake box that makes the car quieter...when you replace it, the car is noticeably louder.

 

Yes I remember how it sound like. It wasn't that long since I had the stock header and exhaust.
The mugen stuff is definitely not quieter than stock. I thought I had an exhaust leak when I put the header on, but realized that it was just the sound of my valves.. As for the exhaust, the only time I can really hear it is when idling, or if I'm driving through a tunnel or under a bridge. When I'm at full throttle though, all I can hear is the intake.. It drowns out the valvetrain noise and the exhaust noise whether or not I have my windows down.

 

The AEM sound very good IMO, specially when VTEC kick in, it make you able to feel the VTEC even more. No wonder people always said when the car is louder, it seem like it is faster.

Try 4 ITRs going thru a tunnel all hitting vtec...lol pretty cool. Sure got some weird "what the hell was that" looks from other drivers! I love that sound.

 

I think the best part is passing a big, jacked up truck with exhaust and crap. They tend to look at you with this weird look and proceed to tell their inbreded wife that they had no idea a little "Acura" could do that. I hate rednecks...
