i'm thinking of taking an internship out west for the summer and i was wondering if there was a lot in the area in terms of tracks and HPDEs

wanna make sure if i take the jobby it will be worth my while.

also what is theft and crime like? if it's really bad maybe i'll just keep my arrh back home... i'll be at Microsoft, for those who know the campus and area..

Microsoft area (Redmond) is an ok place for the R. However the the further south you go the higher the theft possibilities. Downtown Seattle is ok but pretty much everywhere else there's a strong possibility of theft. Federal Way, Tacoma, Renton are the main cities i'd worry about, all those cities are pretty much South of Seattle.

For track and autox, log onto http://www.wwscc.org for autox events, and check the PIR website for further track days

Hey, what's up JOE!?! Haven't seen you on-line lately.

Yeah, Seattle is a great place to be during the summer (tons of places to go driving and sight-seeing). Theft in Redmond (eastside... along with Bellevue, Sammamish) isn't such a big issue, but like any suburb near a big city, there are some. Stay clear of the southside, if you're bringing your R. Also, watch out up northside (bellingham, everett).

As for HPDE, never attended one while I lived in Seattle. I know there are a few open track events at SIR (is that still open?) or up north in Vancouver BC.

Have fun! Seattle is an awesome place during the summer.

Seattle is great.

Pacific Raceways (aka SIR) has lots of track days, and one of the most fun tracks with lots of elevation changes. http://www.proformanceraceschool.com/ That is where I first started my racing carrear, took their introductory course and have been doing 6-7 track days a year since then (been 3 years).

Mission Raceway (B.C.) is about a 2.5 hour drive, and is a smaller, yet fun track.

Portland International Racewayis about 3.5 hours and is very fun, and the Proformance school offers a trip down there in the middle of summer, I went last time.

Theft is an issue anywhere near a populated city, so always watch your back. The Eastside of Lake Washington (Kirkland, Redmond, Bellevue) is where I reside and although there is the occasional theft, it is nowhere near as bad as the south end (Tacoma, Southcenter, Kent/Renton, Federal Way).

If you ever need a tour guide or want to head to the track with a fellow R owner, PM me.

http://www.chuckanutscc.org for Bellingham area autocrosses and rallies
http://www.autosportsnorthwest.org for Spokane events
http://www.nwr-scca.org for the regional events

The first AJ track day is coming up in the next couple of months...I believe April or May 1st!?!?

If you ever go to SPokane, it's about a 3.5 hour drive from Seattle, they're having a FATT- Friday At The Track this year. It's an open lapping day and the road course has the longest straight in North America, so they came, 9/10ths mile straight!!!! 2.5 mile long course. Very fun, but not SCCA sanctioned, so we have autocrosses there and open lapping.

Myself and some of the c-speedracing crew are going to rent out the Spokane course for one or 2 days in the spring time. It will be about 135 bucks a person for a full day.

There;'s lot's going on, but not easy to find out about.

And whoever said that about Bellingham....this is the best/safest place to live. Never had a problem and most of our cars are parked outside

I agree. I went to school up there for a year and it is a very quiet city compared to the suburbs and cities down towards Seattle.

Well, not with a few chop-shops in the area now... but, overall, it's a quiet city.
