new cluster, some wire, some advil for the headache you get wiring it. I did a 88 cluster in my 90 with little effort, about as hard to install as a radio

In addition to the instrument cluster, you need the black plastic cover that goes over the 90-91 cluster and the little metal brackets that hold the cluster to the dash.

Haven't tried the wiring, but yeah, the metal bracket that the cluster attaches to is different. I tried it with the 88 brack and it didn't fit right. Shon Bish.

I don't think you need to do any wiring, just plug it in.

for an 88 crx or an 89 crx? they are different. but anyways, the swap is simple, just cut the wires and re-wire in the new one. but yeah, you will need the newer cover, hazard button, defroster button, dimmer switch, and column cover.

the speedometer should just plug in, but the metal braket is different, i custom that on mine.
the hazard button on the 90-91 speedo shroud dash is not functional on mine (just accesory, rather than leaving a hole)
the original hazard button on the steering column working normally.

Eggman, if you recommend to change the steering column, than the main blink-er and the wiper switch should be change to the 90-91, right??
how do we wire the hazard??

I think thats gonna be unplug and plug on the new switch, which goes on the cluster's cover now.

Just guessing...

Well I never physically held and looked at a 90-91 cluster before, Just heard you need to rewire it to make it work. I wired in a SiR Cluster into my 89 hatch yesterday so I have something to drive the car with untill I find the cluster I am looking for. Then I have to do this all over again. I know the brakets are different, I have both types, I know the Cluster hood is different, I have both. But really want a Blue cluster hood for the 90-91, Have a black one now. But I had to have VSS for the computer, and the 88-89 cluster did not have it. and I could not get an answer before sat down yesterday and rewired for the SiR cluster.

you may unplug the 88-89 main switch and replace it with 90-91?? maybe..
if you do, then you automaticaly elliminate the hazard button.

( for INETFORCE: sorry, i'm courious too)

It's interesting, I wonder why they decided in Japan/Europe to use the Electro VSS and in US and Britain use a mechanical Speedo. Does it have something to do with Japan/Europe being KMH and US/Britain beign MPH. Cuz the SiR or 1.6 VTI cluster I got from England is in MPH and uses a cable speedo.

On the other hand what did the other countries that CRX's were available in get for their speedo specs?

Some of you are close, some of you guys are way off...there is no way that it will just plug in, and its alot harder then putting in a radio

I have done this swap..

Yes you will need defroster, dimmer switch, hazard button..

you wil also need the 90-91 plugs that go into the cluster

the brackets

the hood

extra wire, heat shrink, solder, soldering iron

both wiring diagrams

time and skillz...

yes, but the VTI clusters are not exactly common. I want one, but not ready to spend $350 for one. And I could not get my car to run Vtec with a 89 cluster, but I had an SiR cluster since I got a 1/2 cut. Hve everything on mine that would bolt up. SiR radiator map purge and purge canister, Clsuter, cluster hood dash clock and soon to have Climate control, axels and hubs and brakes., Porportioning valve booset and master Cylinder.

Why they did it electronic? good question. There are solder jumpers on the SiR speedo. Wonder if that would aloow it to read in Mph if right connections are made? Wish someone had the info. Because something uses those to program it. But numerically the combos are to great. tracks would come off if I started trying them.

Did you ever take a SiR speedo out of the cluster, there is a series of solder blobs on about 8 or 10 spots, bridgeing a connection, that codes a PLD in the Speedo for some function. If you understand electronics you know what I mean, if you don't then it will be over your head.

Do you still have both of the wiring diagrams laying around that you would like to share? Thanks.

Default Help!! I just burnt my fuse by plugging in the dimmer switch!

I need some help please.

I just swaped a 90 crx si gauge cluster onto my 88 crx si..

I wired everything correctly except the Dimmer Switch..

How to do wire the Dimmer Switch????..

The Dimmer Switch's wires on 90 crx are Red/White, Red/Blue and Red/Green.

The wires on mine are Black, Red and Red/Black.

They both have different colors..AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH..

I used the 90-91 brackets because the ones I had didn't fit.
