Default Distributor question

I was wondering if distributor can throw any CEL code? The reason why i'm asking this is because my friend having a 99 Si swap in his 92 Civic hatch CX. The mechanic who doing this swap recommend him to buy OBD1 GSR distributor and OBD1 GSR ECU. Now that the swap is complete, my friend motor run but no VTEC and there are too many code. The mechanic who did the swap said that the distributor is too old that why it throwing all that code and cause the problem. So I wondering if that is true? Any comment would greatly appreciated

There are several sensors within the distributor that can cause CEL's, namely the CKP, TDC, CYL.

What codes are being thrown?
