Alright heres the situation, my friend has a 1990 Civic Wagovan with a D15B2 that is completely covered in oil. Naturally, we want to get rid of it. It is his daily driver and he doesnt need performance. I figured a good reliable motor would be a SOHC ZC from Steve at Hmotors:

Now...my question is (and it has probably been answered but after 15 mins of searching I havent found much) is will it be a direct bolt in? I know that the SOHC ZC is MPFI so will there be any wiring required for that? I'm just wondering if I can unplug the d15B2, unbolt the motor, pull it, bolt the tranny to the zc, bolt the zc in, and plug it all up? ...all help is appreciated
(Again I know very little about OBD-0 stuff so please go easy on me)

since its a gen 4....and they are both d series motors, i believe you can swap the motors u can swap with any d series tranny..now with the motor mounts..i believe it will be a direct bolt on...my 88 and 89 crx (d16a6) the sohc zc bolted right up....good luck o_O

Thing is gonna be a ******* beast...not
We def need to get him some better wheels though
Honestly, this is one of the most immaculate EF's i've ever come across (aside from the motor).
Everything will bolt up as far as mounts and tranny.
You will need to do a dpfi to mpfi conversion. Most of the stuff will come on the new engine.
You will still need to find a pm6 ecu.
There are a million how-to articles. Here's one to get you started:

Do I see jailbars in the back of that thing? nice.
That was definately a wagovan with those.
dx tranny may be no fun though
go get an SI tranny while youre in there
& increase the fun factor.
Mpfi swap, pg7 5spd teg ecu and I think 1 or 2 vac lines to play with.

ZC resource link.
If I find another I'll post later.

I appreciate the fact that mine has the d16a6 motor in it already.
The only swap I wanna do is the tranny. soon
edit: SOHC oops

I know nothing...I really need to get my title changed
Okay...so MPFI swap with appropriate wiring and everything will bolt right up?

Hey guys, this is the owner of said Wagovan, and I have to say that I truly appreciate all the help that H-T is giving me and already has given me, esp BauleyCivic (my former roommate). If you guys help me out with this, I promise to make this EF worth looking at. Bump for more advice.
ah yes, my bumpers....
I've wanted to switch my black dx bumpers for the rt4wd model's painted bumpers and was wondering if there was a junkyard in the Baltimore-Washington area that would let me go in the yard and sniff around..or maybe a good parts site. Any help?
CT junkyards let me hop on cars if I want to.
When I'm at college in MD, it's apparently against insurance policy.

the sohc zc will come with a half shaft system, if you're gettting the tranny with it also. you would need a driverside axle from a 4wd wagon. i have some spare parts for this if u run into problems and need something.

We were just gonna use the D15B2 tranny since it was still good...

not quite what I had in mind...
but I appreciate the work it took to transform a car like mine into a car like his
ANYWAY, if I use the same tranny it should bolt right up to the SOHC ZC with no additional modifications needed, right? Please, do not let me turn this car into an ornament on BauleyCivic's lawn. Any input appreciated.

No, its FWD.
No, its FWD.
so yeah, my first post here
I'm in the market for an RT myself right now (going to look at a nice one this weekend). This is all very good info! I was thinking of a sohc buildup myself... light P&P head, valve job, cam, exhaust, etc.. A ZC would be cool too though - and a straight drop in the RT would be possible it seems (MPFI to MPFI - right?)
Sweet wagovan site Kyle!! (i think that's who had the link...)
anyhow, I am glad I came to H-T for some insight prior to purchasing a new ride. I'm comming back after a 4yr stint with Subaru!! Previous H cars have been: '89, '93 integra ls's, and a '92 GSR... Actually, I love my Subie, but I need a cheaper, fun, buildable, awd car untill my wife is out of grad school (and the RT will become hers - and I will buy my Legacy Turbo, or something awd and factory turbo), but I digress... (IggDawg - hey, fellow Subie-dude!... I think
)
I'll be posting frequently once i actualy have an RT to talk about. Until then, I will lurk.
And, damn!, I need to get all this block/head/intake plenum nomenclature down -
it can be confusing - haha Y/Z/8/PM6/P28/whatever - haha
