Default Oil Pan Baffling...

I know many of you are running aftermarket baffled oil pans, Mugen, Spoon or otherwise... I've also read many of you had your stock pan baffled as well...

Since rewatching the BMI Type-R Legend on DVD last night, I figure I should be taking Ichishima's advice on the "track prep", before I goto the Expo...

I was wondering how much you saved by going for the OEM baffled and where you got it done? Or should I just suck it up and whip out 300 clams for a Mugen or Spoon one?

The mugen is $250.

You can buy precut pieces for ~$30 and have the pan cleaned and welded in for another $30 or so. If you wanted to save down time on the car, you can buy a new pan for $130-$150, or a used one for $60-$80.

I also am planning on this. RJ, where can the precut pieces be sourced from? My buddy is a pro welder, so that will be free.

It came out of Vtec on very fast hard turns and then when I straightened out it came back on.

Anyone know about the Spoon Aluminum Oil pan? I'm not really one for bling per se (since I probably won't be turning my R into a Spoon Race Car anytime soon)... but I just came across this while looking around on AJ Racing...

Looks completely different from other designs (for oil baffling pans atleast)..

Thanks for the link mstewar, I was searching forever (okay 20 minutes) without the right hits...

Let Rob explain but, I'll bet he'll attribute it to going in and out of Vtec.

But, Rob you must also remember that you were Consuming oil during sessions! How much was the most? 1/4 or 1/2 a quart?

Not saying that I have the answer but I didn't burn any oil and never had any Vtec engagement issues.

Aaron did you?

I don't think Any of us were going that fast or pulling That many G's at LRP that we'd starve the motor for oil. [opinion]

Is a baffled pan good for more advanced track guys that track more often and at higher speeds/G's?

Sure.

When I had a full amount of oil I would still get starve... and 1/4 -1/2 should not make or break the level for it to starve (i don't think)

I was going to mention the same thing. Rob was losing a good amount of oil from the get go so that maybe more of an attribute to VTAK.

I didn't have any problems with loss of VTEC @ LRP. And I was doing @ 110/115 (8400RPM/JDM FD 4th gear) out the last corner on to the front straight. That's probably the most G intensive turn @ LRP.

I think the uphill, downhill and coming into turn #1 are the most G intensive.

*shrug*

My butt g/slide meter must be off. But I really can't tell that much since I'm still bracing myself with the dead pedal/knee against the door ala Oscar in some corners now.

That pan's been out of production for several years. It was upwards of $1000 if I remember correctly.

i think having 10-94 (dwn-shft) baffle the pan for $60 I don't think it can hurt. For how cheap it is how can you go wrong? I just sent mine out to him. Should be here tomorrow I think.

For the people that were asking if you need it, if you can pull enough G's then you will starve. I used to overfill my oil by about 1/2 quart just to be safe. But now that I've got the pan it's just a little insurance for such a big catastrophe it can cause.

damn, you were hitting 110/115 out of the corner? really? just seems fast.
