Crunching gears... Help
Sometimes when im driving, i have the clutch all the way in and the gears will crunch during a gear change...
Also I cant get it into reverse without it crunching like a biatch...
What is wrong?
What can i do to fix it?
If i was to change the transmission what one should i got for...
Cheers

sounds like you need to do 2 things
check the tranny fluid and adjust your clutch
as far as the reverse crunching thing
my 88 civic hatch std does the same thing, i've found that if i start it up and wait 1-2 minutes before taking off and also tap the gas a few times when moving the shifter it'll fall right into place no probs..
get into it and jump into reverse immediately ALWAYS makes my reverse grind a bit

Like stated before, check your tranny fluid level. If its fine and still grinds, try some GM Synchromesh tranny fluid. It's worked wonders for many users on here with tranny grinds. Your only other 2 options are rebuild or different tranny. Most people opt for a different tranny b/c they can be had for much cheaper than a rebuild, but if you fork over the $ for a complete rebuild you'll have a solid tranny that will last a damn long time.
As for reverse, push the clutch in, go into 5th, then straight back into reverse. This helps the grinding into reverse tremendously, mine grinds like a bitch too if I just go striaght into R, its bc theyre straight gears instead of "helical" or some other term...either way, give it a try.

depends on what kind of trans you have. check your fluids and adjust your clutch first before anything. and the 1st gear to reverse always works for me
