what does getting your block decked mean?
i went to a machine shop the other day to talk about honing my block, and he mentioned that it is a good idea to get my block decked as well for an additional 70 dollars. i dont have a problem with the money but i dont know what that means and stupid me forgot to ask, i dont want to get my block decked if its anything like when they mill a head. i dont want to take off any material from the block.
I could be wrong but I think when you get a block decked it means they make sure the top of the block is perfectly flat so the head then sits perfectly flat on the block.
i was hoping you say that but i just hope that they dont start taking **** off the block lol
so id getting the block decked worht paing 70 dollars for? or can i get away with just getting honed?

hmm...need to learn to type dude
anyways...get yourself some copper spray, if you don't want the block milled down. The spray will act like ahesive and also help seal gaps.

if the blocks surface is rough the head gasket is going to have a hard time sealing... when they deck it.. the block is like smooth as glass.. my machinist runs this dial thing over the surfarce and it can dectect minor imperfections on the surface.. but yea long story short.. get it done..
oh ok. so getting the block decked just means they smooth the surface area where the head mates to the block. it doesnt mean anything bad and i shouldnt be worried about it right?
Its not bad and could be beneficial to have done....gets any high spots off and imperfections off, which allows the headgasket to really get a good bite on a level surface...I had it done and im glad i did, worth it I think....they dont take much off, unluss you want them too, they just do a quick cleanin up

yea i was just about to type that im going to go ahead and get it done. 70 aint much money hey LEN i pulled the motor out last night, im taking the block apart tonight anfd dropping it off at the machine shop tommorrow morning. they wil have the block back to me friday and i am reassembling my motor this weekend. in 2 weeks im going to get retuned and hopefully have that 500to the wheels i have been talking about
Decking the block is not only used to ensure the block is strait but can also be used to bump up compression. Just make sure if you do it that they are not taking to much off. You would'nt want your valves to be smakin you pistons.
