how does a yahama 600R sound as a first bike?
ya'll think it is a nice bike? i might be getting it soon. it's a 2k2 blue 600R for $4k and it has been dropped once at a stop in a parking lot. totally stock. this bike is so clean it only has 1716 miles on it. here's some pics of it.

4000 isnt too bad, but it;s probably a bit much for a starter bike. You just kind of have to expect to put it down once pretty hard, but hell there are people out there that start out riding R1's or Gsxr1000's and never have any problems. '''
I'd say go for it.
I'd say go for it.
go for an r-6 way sportier an better looking than the 600r. bikes don't hold thier value well, so put a little more money into it and get something good

Huh? Wait what?
I don't think very many people would recommend buying a brand new bike as a learner bike. And bikes tend to hold value fairly well, I mean look at some of the bikes being posted on Hondatech at the moment.
2002 954RR+2000 miles- $7300
1999 900RR+9000 miles- $6700
2000 929RR+4800 miles- $5500
That's decently holding value.

i thought about getting an r6 but the 600r is cheaper and i figure it is better to learn on a weaker bike and then move to a faster better handling bike later. that way i can get the experience of ridering and get comfortable and know exactly what i want later on down the line. thanx for the replys tho.
Go for the 600R man, that bike is rad. Go for what you like and what you can afford. Don't listen to what everyone says, half of them don't know what they are talking about.

most intelligent answer anyone has said so far.

I'd say get the exact bike you want, and something really really shitty to learn on (under 500 dollars) that way you have what you want once you get good enough.
If the 600R is what you want, go for it, try to get a crappy bike too though so you don't feel bad when (and I say *when*) you drop a bike learning.

I ride that bike and I love it. But I cant pop wheelies with it at all. its toooo heavy. But its a great begginers bike. I think so atleast. Its super compfortable. Its more of a touring/sport bike. Its got the pep to stay up with the other 600s but its also hella compfortable. Look into it some more. The good thing about the 600r. FAIRINGS are Cheap compared to others. Most of the stuff i replaced hasnt cost much. Goodluck with riding though. Make sure you take the riding course before too.

Agreed.
An even better first bike is the FZ6.
Cheers,
Sean

Real sports bikes require real riders, which he is not.
I wonder what you think of older sportbikes. I would also wonder even more what you would think of an older sportbike lapping your *** on a track while you look pretty on your R6.
