Getting Paint Soon, Need Prep Help
Well after a good week of seeing reviews and actually going to the maaco lot and looking at newly done cars with the $300 paint, it was amazing and I was sold. Im getting one with a warranty but doing to the prep myself.
I need some help with that though.
I have a 89 Crx and its basically the stock Red paint with bondo work done to the rear quarters and where I shaved the side mouldings.
Can anyone help me right from the start form where I get the bondo sanded nice and flush with the panels.
What kind of sander do I use? Hand? Block? Power circular sander?
I wont be doing the trunk jams and engine bay there, I will be doing it myself black with a rattle can
Im not priming but I need to know exactly what to do that wont cost me an arm and a leg, I will be towing the car there I think

Alright where the bondo work is start with 80 grit on a board sander and get it down almost all the way then switch to 120 and take it down the rest of the way then move on to 320 and feather out the edges. Once you are done with the body work wet sand the entire car with 500 grit on a sponge block.

I wouldn't use a small sander if it is a flat area or a big dent cause it is really hard to get it flat with a small sander and if you use one i will garantee you it will end up wavy if you have no experience

93EH6, you don't know what you are talking about! SIKE!
actually i hear you on that one! the small rotary sander is not easy to use, when you have no experience, they can remove paint, metal, stickers...really fast, sometimes taking of more then you want! once you have done all that you need to guide sand the whole thing to check for high and low spots! yo 93EH6 can you provide some more info...

if the dent is bigger than 4" i wouldn't use that you would need somthing that will overlap the edges of the dent i would use a board sander for anything bigger than that as far as sanding the original paint it depends on the condition but most of the time you just sand it enough to get it perfectly smooth
and for other tips take your time cause if you rush the process you will **** it up
