Default Starter Problem?

My car wouldn't start yesterday at a gas station, so I had my wife crank the car while I hit the starter and it cranked up. So, I got another starter from a friend, and installed it last night, the car started fine, drove it around today, and it wouldn't start back up, just kept turning over, so I had to wait until someone pulled up, and had them crank my car, while I hit the starter and it cranked up again. So I took my old starter to NAPA, and they tested it and it was fine. So, what would cause it not to crank sometimes, until I hit the starter, if the started is supposed to be fine?

Well..wouldnt be the case if he swapped the whole thing. (starter sol piggybacked on starter itself)

Did you swap starters solenoids too ??

Is it easy to just change the solenoid? The solenoid would be bad on both starters?

It has to be the soleniod if you had to bang on the starter to get the car started.

no I didn't swap the solenoids, they are attached to the starter, i just went and got another starter, and had to do the same time on the next starter, it doesn't happen all the time, just ever-so-often.

Could be a bad connection between the solenoid wire and the ignition switch.

So, just check the wire from the solenoid back to the ignition and make sure everything is secure?

You could use that as a starting piont and go from there, keep us updated. It could even be your ignition switch.
