Oil leaking Bad!!!
Okay check it out, I may soon be the heir of a '97 Accord. Problem is the engine (F22B2 if it matters) is leaking oil beyond belief. I mean in about a mile the car leaked 2 quarts of oil entirely. It doesn't overheat which is funny and I overheard something about "dampers" being broken. Anybody ever experience this. I mean the car has 79000 miles on it. Could the engine block be damaged. Any tips on how to check out the problem? There are no aftermarket parts on it yet. Um...oh and the transmission has to be forced into second and fourth and makes a grinding noise when you shift it into those gears. If this stuff seems a little vague its because the car is 1500 miles away and I cannot take a close look at it. This is what I've heard over the phone. But yeah. I'll appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks.
there was a recal about the 5th gens concerining and oil leak
my 96 was doing the same thing before i bought it
i got the deal down a grand and had it fixed for free

As for the grinding sounds, some of the MTs for the Accords have been problematic... my gearbox had to be rebuilt at 27K miles (back in '97) when my 5th gear fork (or shaft) broke and the piece somehow got stuck in the reverse gear assembly (or something to that extent). Thank god for a warranty! (It was a defect from the factory)...
oil leaked on the balancer shaft seal...the seal breaks and dumps all of the oil out...i think you can check on the side of the valve cover and see if oil is leaking out of it...
...or maybe your oil pan bolt washer is letting oil out...etc

FWIW, technically it's a TSB, not a recall. I got this from the nhtsa.gov web site:
TSB 00-073

Service Bulletin Number: 00073
Bulletin Sequence Number: 188

A CONDITION MAY EXIST WHERE THE FRONT BALANCER SHAFT OIL SEAL MAY

ENGINE DAMAGE IF CONTINUED TO DRIVE. *TT
